Forgotten Shadow

Creeping shadows

grabbing, arms outstretched.

Reaching.

Trying to pull you into their pits

of forgetfulness.

Memories once blazed,

now seemingly erased.

Just empty seats

where no recollections sit.

The lurking threat,

it stalks through the rain.

Following.

It trudges through the sludge

of your swamped brain.

Taking away every faded breath,

sweeping away

the thoughts in your head.

The terror within.

Wandering.

Without a thought,

wondering what it was you sought.

Lost in a maze,

where once you knew your way.

Now all just faded,

dissolved into the grey.

Scary scenes

or just people in streets.

Walking between mountains of steel

and climbing concrete.

No sense of direction.

No way home.

Lost in the flood

like a paper boat

floating along all alone.

Directionless blur.

A smear of memory.

Then it’s gone.

A sneer from the face

in the window staring back.

Follows every step you take,

mimics every footstep you make.

Leering in the shadows,

smirking as you struggle along.

Making you feel forgotten

Or like you've forgotten

what it feels like

to be you.

Stale

The agonised wheezing

and grinding of bones.

The awful tones

of those wretched moans.

The sound that comes

when the hum has dulled.

When darkness falls

the voices from beyond

start to call.

The aching weight

that fills the air.

Old decrepit building

that fills this nightmare,

The lair

where

demons appear.

Where fear

is your only friend

and it's standing near,

just behind you, until the end.

The rancid stench like decomposing skin.

Fills the air like gas in an airtight room.

Your breath starts to thin,

then like a match is struck. BOOM.

You are in pieces.

Your mind scattered into the breeze.

The fear increases.

Circles as you turn to catch a sight,

It fills your mind

with eternal night.

You can feel its stale breath,

smell the rotten scent of death.

Decay is all that is left,

in this place

where sunlight is bereft.

Nothing good can come from these parts,

just the sullen echoes of broken hearts.

Where the dead walk the lands

just wishing to depart.

Ghost Stories

There have been countless ghost stories released worldwide.

What is it that fascinates us so,

about passing over to the other side?

Is it facing our greatest foe?

Time.

Is it the thought that we can cling on tight?

Even when we should be entering the light.

That a part of us can still survive

or is it fear of a life lived, not truly alive.

When our story closes,

a slammed book,

like a coffin lid

hammered shut.

When our sands trickle

to the other end of the glass

and we realise that what we had

has passed.

There have been countless

romance tales told.

So intrinsically linked

In golden ink.

The same sad story...

Love and death arms joined in eternal glory.

Ghosts that don't realise they've died,

hearts that are bound and tethered,

unable to cross to the other side.

There is romance in the fiction,

haunting memories that live on.

In those stories of grey ladies,

walking aimlessly

across the balustrades.

To look out once more

for just a sign

of lovers who never return,

but whose memories burn.

eternally into the mists of time.
