State Of Emergency

A state of emergency
Riots on the streets
blood on the hands of the elites
a throwback to history
a reminder of yesterday

State of emergency
Cacophony of a world flipping into anarchy
rubber bullets pound the crowd
no wait, those are live ammo now
blood spilled, innocent lives
lost in the government drive by
an assassination on freedom for rich mans lies

State of emergency
Don't stand tall, don't yell or you will be next against the wall
the world is crashing we are here to witness the fall
people are sick, the red mist is rising
like the cost of living in this world of rich mans devising
living through hard times, austerity measures
if you don't measure up there is no time for pleasure
workforce being overused, working for a system corrupt and abused
the method to keep them dulled and confused

State of emergency
Right wing power rise, ignoring the warning lights
the history books that told of the plights
a reprise of the last rites, sold as regaining our rights
when we are really handing them over without any fight
is it any surprise, in this world of far right racists in power
that the people are in fear of the world they encounter

State of emergency
The streets are on fire, from warlords bombs, and uninvited troops
to protest marches, against the way the world is being misused
Worldwide we sleepwalk into the great divide, the battle for our minds is the real one we face
us vs them, nation against nation, race against race
none of these matter, we are just the same, we all bleed red
so don't be misled, or fed a lie to fear the monster under your bed
the real monsters are in the houses of power
they don't care as long as we beg and cower

Stare

I don't care if you want to stare, judge me if you dare
these feet have walked across the fires of hell, shoeless and bare
felt the flames lick, whilst the devil played his last trick
the heat of being deathly sick, so if you want to burn me, you better make it quick

My heart has been torn apart like paper, but of love it still speaks
eyes have watched the sky turn bleak, the tears I cry don't make me weak
the things I've seen, some will forever haunt my dreams
so don't take as a weakness the screams or the tears that come in streams

I have held so much hope in my hands, had it stolen in a blink of an eye
yet still I walk with my head held high, so judge me why don't you try?
ridicule me for the mistakes I've made, make fun of the way I speak
go on call me a freak if it makes your life complete, you wont be the first its hardly unique

I have stood with death, so if you think your judging eyes will make me fall
I have a shock in store for you all, I'll walk tall before I crawl
try to make me feel small if it entertains you so, I'll just go with the flow
your words cant hurt more than the ones that I hear in my head when the lights are low

If you really need me to bleed to make your day feel fulfilled
then I'm sorry but I wont concede, too much of my blood has already been spilled
I walk with pride, my heart rebuilt from the inside
I have life, friends by my side and a smile that's wide

Hotel room

I was there, tiny hotel room
a lone traveller dancing to a new tune
walked out of my locked cell
into a world of yesterdays and forgotten farewells

In that crowded city, heart brittle
alone in a place so big, I felt so little
yet revitalised my eyes darted across the skies
the lights, the highs, the fantasy lives, the lies?

I was there, in a place of crooks and kings
a theatre stage show world, afraid of nothing
since that day I've been trying to relive the thrill
of a life moving forward, instead of standing still

In that insignificant hotel, I felt a wave of emotion
the noise in my head slowed, hope rushed in like an explosion
I found my words, new worlds to explore in my heart and mind
a piece of a jigsaw I'd long ago left behind

I was there, watching the night unfold over a city that doesn't sleep
I let the moon take me away, into its light I'd leap
and along those dark streets I'd walk, skipping to a new beat
never in fear of what the road would present at my feet

In that confined hotel room I felt freedom, the world felt open
my soul didn't feel broken, the city had spoken
felt like leaping headfirst into a turbulent ocean
floating on the waves, feeling hope in the motion

Memories of red with spoken word video

Haunting familiar paths I walk
ghosts of old, shadows stalk
spectres fade, hope betrayed
moments of light, turn to shade

A crow calls out my name, calls me to shame
echoed words engulf, like a blanket of flame
through the fog, I glance and see, a wave of zombies taunting me
a sea of ghouls, arms outstretched hauntingly, I try to flee
The walls bleed, crimson tears seep as the walls weep
menacing voices speak, dripping their poison as they creep
the windows rattle, a tree branch silhouetted in the moonlit rain
points me out, as if damning me to an eternity of pain

Laughter, a sinister sound in this empty room
is it in my head or is someone rising from their tomb
the sweat pours cold, shivers down my spine
am I going out of my mind, the icy cold fingers on my neck are not mine

A skeleton in the room, wind howling whistling through the bones
as I lay on this bed of nails, surrounded by poking prodding clones
There was a voice in the visions, in the darkness I saw
told me that we are all so much more, that this world is ours use it for good not war

Death spoke to me in a soft voice, in a tuneful song
told me that I still belong, that I had a story to turn the pages on
and then he was gone, and I was there in a hospital bed
all the fear and dread bled away into memories of red

Man ruins everything

Man ruins everything
when profit is king
lets burn the bridges
take our place in history
watch as the ship sinks
under turbulent frothy seas

Burn down the trees, who needs to breathe
pollute the seas, don't want those fish to breed
fuck it, lets kill all the bees
bring this world to its knees
lets heat the ice caps, always wanted a house on the beach
or a palace in the hills away from the peasants reach
humanity sits at the top table
whilst the planet burns, this is our fable

Man ruins everything
no one will hear anymore songbirds sing
butterflies wont dance, animals wont graze
but our roads will be well paved
as we learn of the extinction we caused
through our shiny new Apple Ithoughts

Man ruins everything
when we use the world as a wellspring
a plaything, a money making machine
we need to stop treating it like a latrine
when we forget the planet needs to breathe
don't be surprised when she starts to bare her teeth

Pride

Take all of your bad days, wear them like a badge of honour
place them on a pedestal, under spotlight, they made you stronger
all the failures, the setbacks, that scuppered you in your tracks
for you survived all the things that tried to break your back

Take the upset, the rains that swept through your cloudy brain
the tears that crept, as your heart leapt; broken from so much pain
put them in pride of place, don't hide them or feel disgraced
the knockbacks faced didn't leave you out of the race, or too far off pace

Take the hurt, the moments that you felt no worth
when all you wanted was to be swallowed whole by the earth
take the memories that made you cry
oceans of tears; you thought would never dry
stand tall and think of them with pride
for you never ran to hide, you walked with purpose in your stride

Falling Sands

Falling sands show the passing of days
hours trickling swiftly away
as the chimes call, and the hands creep
the days turn to weeks

A four walled cave, as the moon takes its place
replaces the sun, in a constant race
darkness to light to dark again in the blink of an eye
a whimper turns to a sigh, as the morning birds take to the air and fly

Repeat to fade, the tides that wave goodbye to yesterday
say hello to tomorrow it will be here briefly, then fade into obscurity
a photograph blurred by years of reprinting
as the hours fly past sprinting

The fleeting freedom of the suns rays beating
evaporates the tears and lifts a smile in greeting
a friendly reminder that the world is still turning
that the end is not here and the future is full of learning
