Echoing sounds

Echoing sounds of Merseybeat.

Fab four songs play on repeat.

We took a peek,

a glance through the looking glass,

into days of time gone past.

We heard the songs,

George, Paul, Ringo and John

drifting along cobblestones streets.

Heard them in the air at every corner we meet.

We took in sights,

the city shrouded like a deep mist.

Once inside we felt light,

a buzz to exist.

The folklore and myths.

Down every street,

a heartbeat, a pulse,

we drank it all down in large gulps,

consumed the stories.

Graveyards built from disused quarries,

majestic buildings breaching the sky,

gothic cathedral looming high

Low sun glints from glass shells,

water ripples twinkle with lights mystical spells.

We took a walk by dockside

through cemeteries where the dead hide.

Centuries-old souls of the departed.

We saw old and new as the evening started.

Haggard and worn, battered and bruised.

Walked with shiny, glam, sparkling suits.

Energy and passion,

the nights vibrations like waves crashing,

through glass and concrete,

red brick cobble stone street.

To the sound of Merseybeat.

Never knew

I never knew you

or what you were going through.

But everyone leaves a mark,

something written on a page

of this earth, once we leave the stage.

We leave something of us,

a piece of our heart,

it lingers in the atmosphere,

amongst the universal dust.

I never knew you

but sadness is my feeling.

Trying to collect all the mental shards

from smashed glass brain facades.

Something missing

from the world.

The poems that won't be written.

The songs that won't be sung.

I never knew you

we had mutual friends.

But a person leaves so much behind in the end.

The feeling is sadness,

it's praying that happiness follows.

Knowing that those who held you close

are now struggling to find hope.

Wanting to be there to hold out a hand

for those that are not able to cope.

Thank you for reading.

Well-versed lie

Such a well-versed lie

I haven't touched a drop

I don't need that poison to get by

I can easily stop

Deceive yourself to quench the thirst

Head like a spinning top,

slurred voice getting worse

Such a worn old line

I'm fine,

drink isn't a problem at all

Ignoring the warning signs

The worried looks as health declines

The doctor’s call

Family lifelines,

the bells loudly ringing chimes

Such tired excuses

I need to do it to help me sleep

Or to stop the worry that creeps

Ignore all the trip caused bruises

I need to have a drink to make me feel good

To calm my mood and I like it with food

But I can stop whenever I want

You say through slurred words from the poison you've imbued

Weary looks and wary words

From those that care,

but are scared of outbursts

Lying to doctors, only a glass a night I swear

The bottle empty,

shows the truth you don't share

Another drink and you could fall

Is it really worth it all,

making everyone await that dreaded phone call

Tell yourself you’re doing fine

All whilst draining another glass of wine

No one listens to your lies anymore

They just wait,

knowing that one day rain will pour

And the tears will fall at your door
