A marriage of moonlight and snow

In the romance

of a riverside retreat.

A marriage of moonlight

and snow filled the sky.

I watched a silhouette,

carefully placing shadows

under the streetlight,

and I knew in a heartbeat

that I must have been dreaming.

Reality could never be

so mesmerising.

You washed into my dreams,

like the most beautiful wave,

pulling apart the visions

that once sat in place,

manipulating the sky and trees,

separating the clouds apart,

allowing the moon

to shine down on me.

You took the grim city,

recreated it

in your own playful image,

made it sparkle with dashes of art.

Everything dazzled, creating

a scene so pretty it stole my heart.

With the beautiful

world at my feet,

I stood, letting

the emotions flood

through my arteries

like sweetened blood.

Across the bridge

that spanned the frozen waters,

I ran, to get closer to you.

An angel amongst us.

I ran to be a part

of this grand story,

the gleeful moonlight

winked

as if this was all

part of her masterplan.

The streetlight flickered,

strobe lighting,

showing the swish of your hair,

a flourish in the winter air.

I saw the irises of your eyes,

pulling me closer. I felt elated.

A high that made my heart

soar through the sky. Elevated

my heart rate

until the sound of its primal drumbeat

was all I could hear.

As I walked near, you turned to me,

whispered in my ear, said "dream of me"

Then vanished.

A puff of smoke drifting

into the atmosphere.

The chill cold stroked my chin,

I could feel icicles forming

from happy tears that started flowing.

The sky resumed snowing.

As the cold bit away at my hands

I realised I hadn't been

dreaming after all.

This was reality and the snow

continued to fall.
