Sweet Dreams

Floating through candy floss clouds

and rainbow drop waterfalls

fields of green marzipan dreams

icing sugar snow falls

over mountains of sponge

topped with flurries of ice cream

Bubblegum blue skies

Tooti Frooti leaves falling from chocolate trees

rivers of jelly, brandy snap boats sailing free

islands of tasty treats and sherbet foamy seas

a place of beauty, fit for a delicacy such as thee

Peanut brittle shards like stained glass

shattered, cracked,

walls of cherry bakewell flavoured flapjack

black forest gateaux, cherry waters flow

over lands that the chocolate orange sun sinks into sweetly below

Rows of gingerbread houses,

almond biscuit streets

custard cream flavoured dreams

crystal fruits like tourmaline

lands of strawberry topped with chocolate streams

coconut sprinkles fall, like snow setting the scene

on this sweetshop fantasy island,

this world of sweet cuisine

Sticky toffee pudding islands

popping candy sands

beside lakes of rhubarb and custard

delicately rippled with syrupy jam lowlands

rivers flowing to fantasy

from the mountains of sweet luxury

to the sea of Cadbury’s creme

filled with jellybean submarines

Sherbet fountains sprinkle like hundreds and thousands

Cola bottle flowers shine like toffee apple diamonds

all the fears that no longer exist

wrapped up together in liquorice twists

floating through dreams scented in sweetness and bliss

like a sugar-coated hug with an Hershey's kiss

Defective Heart

Always tasting pain with perfection

a smile only lasts for a brief second

before being stained when sadness beckons

turns down the emotion

downplays the elation

left like a train

sat idling at the station

Sink into warm duvet

it's going to be that kind of day

close my eyes

and hope it fades into grey

happiness is not allowed

is this karma biting away?

Inward smiles soon become frowns

upside down they flounder around

I swear inside

words seldom uttered aloud

I mutter to myself under a darkened cloud

is this what happens

when cries become too loud?

Read between lines

inserting words in my mind

I see attack

even if the content is kind

I feel dejected, a defective heart rejected

by the body it calls home

is this what happiness feels like

when its left all alone?

But then I see your smile

my heart lifts

breaks the chains that tie me down

and my mood starts to shift

climb out of my duvet

and embrace the day

this is what happens

when two hearts make the rains wash away

Broken Room

In this broken room

shattered dreams

my derelict heart

torn at the seams

cracked walls of time

the hands have stopped turning

but my torn heart

never stops yearning

waiting so long for a call

crying as night falls

awaiting pitfalls

and dead-end brick walls

In this fallout shelter

the bombs have exploded

corroded steel

exposed tears that I cry

broken brickwork, plaster ripped bare

dust fills the air

Into my lungs as I sigh

time passing by

another hour sat waiting

am I in the wrong place?

is fate baiting

In this shell

concrete and cement

I lament

hours that trickle

like water through the cracks

in walls, porous and brittle

a setback

debris waste flows into black

the ceiling sags

under weight of soaked flags

my foundations, built on quicksand

leaving me

a house sinking into the land

In this crooked hell

I await my tolling bell

my final hour

that phone call that says its over

the alarm breaking through silent covers

signalling the end of the dream

the ringtone screams

piercing noises

echoes of long forgotten voices

stabbing inside

that cause my world to subside
