Summer leaves shimmer and shake in the warm breeze
like teenagers on a first date, knees weak
leaning in for a first kiss in the suns rays
feeling their hearts leap, like lambs on spring days

Summer treats plucked from the trees
like words and memories
so sweet the way you pour into my dreams
like a drink brewed from fruits, born to sun beams

Summer flowers bring cheer, a picnic for the eyes
a delightful sight, a stunning sunrise
but the time flies, summer sings her last
as the darkening skies start to fall fast

Summers end, those messages we never send
the love that we never share, our hearts don't extend
memories all that carry over, into those early days of October
the autumn and winter hangover

Love struck me like a truck going eighty
full force to the heart, my sanity left me
Just my dumb luck, she was looking the other way
I came unstuck, love lost on the motorway

I was love sick, my pulse raced too quick to hide
dizzy like I've been flung on a fairground ride
my stomach ached, like it had a swarm of bees inside
love quick to crack my heart open wide

Love bites, it rips the flesh from your skin
tears at your mind, eats the pieces within
it sucks the joy that you earn
love sets fire to your heart, watches it burn

Love hurts, like a bomb to the heart
a grenade to the soul, a shot in the dark
but love heals, it makes you smile pure and true
it helps you, it makes the world seem new
it colours the black and white pictures you draw

Hit the city

Hit the city, the pathways and alleys

dark grey car park, near the disused Palais
the places that crumbled, the old days long gone
when the storm clouds rumbled, only memory lives on

Pace the streets, feet moving me
wary of the changing scenery
this place doesn't seem the same to me, lost its old shine and glory
just lost pages in a different story
 

Pound the town, pondering future times
the old movie house, where we sat for hours in our primes
now just a block of flats, a student habitat
the city no longer the place we once sat
 

Walk the paths, the old hidden depths
the restaurant in the backstreet, just behind the shopping complex
these old haunts, they never leave
the city regrowing on me, its beauty still breathes

Thunder

Electricity, static shivers through the leaves
birds flock to the trees, fearful of the growing breeze
the animals find shelter somewhere warm
aware of the oncoming storm

The air sizzles with anticipation, as the pressure flips
the first boom of thunder and the sky rips
a flash in the darkness, the forest alight
as Mother Nature shows the world a sight

The storm erupts, Nature unleashes her wrath
animals dig deep, a crash as a tree falls to the path
the storm circles, as the rains pour
like a pack of wolves, its hungry for more

Thunder cracks, the sky shatters like a mirror
light fractures the air, as the strikes come quicker
another tree falls to the power
as the animals all hide away and cower

Deep rivers are created as the lands drown
the tears of the clouds cascade down
as lightning crashes the party downtown
and the sounds of thunder echo all around
