Sick

Makes me sick

to see plates sitting empty

a place at the table

laid out ready and waiting

but no one will be eating

the food has run out

not due to famine or drought

but a bunch of ministers looking out

for their own, in times of doubt

Makes me sick

but no stomach contents to spew

table is set, but no food there to chew

MPs gorge themselves

on mountains of takeaway food

would it be rude

to ask for more?

is this the world we live in?

a Dickensian workhouse for the poor

Makes me sick, I find it astounding

lining pockets whilst bellies sit growling

they should hang their heads

but they don't see the shame

in making profit from death in their names

when the poor need a hand

they send floor scrapings instead

no caviar or lobster here

just a ration of bread

Makes me sick

when lives are put at risk

whilst they banquet on 3-star restaurant grub

our children are given a mere carrot stub

And as seats sit empty

as too many bellies went empty

who will rebuild this land of plenty?

Makes me sick, takes my breathe away

They see no problem, no disarray

in a hundred grand takeaway

paid for by taxpayers’ hands

But if we hold out our palms

asking for some in return

their heads they do turn

It’s too much to spare

here’s half a pear

now scurry along

the night is young

and we have a dinner date

here’s some crumbs for your plate

Mirrors

Mirrors

reflecting

distorted skin - pulled taught

mirrors

that Report

the stories they see

in flipped imagery

on walls

visions

watching me

A face

I don't recognise

looking at me

traced

through bloodshot eyes

to summarise

a disguise

frailty in the lines

shown in reflective lies

in shimmery imagery

through distorted minds

This body I despise

disposed thoughts

hopes left to fly

age worn into saddened eyes

windows to crawl inside

mirrors reflect from the other side

the smile I wear

is it a pose painted on to hide woes?

or a trick of the light

how Is it possible that even I can't know?

how I really look to outside spies

Reading lines that are not there

strands and threads that don't appear

between what we say and what we see

imagination paints a reflection

a wide-open sea

shimmery

mind symmetry

lines sketchy and stretched

etched storylines that only shine

for beauty bathed in moonlight

in its reflective glazed over eyes

the mirror only ever lies

Tiptoeing Time

Gunmetal grey skies

cold dead time... barely flies

It creeps instead

it leaves, head perturbed

cautiously passing, a step at a time

tiptoeing, to not disturb

it walks away

Cold drizzle pours down the hands of the clock

time feels the weight of every drop

waits at every stop

on slow motion crawl

draws a sigh deep inside

raises tensions mountain high

before tiptoeing away

out of your life

Crisscross timelines

like rivers that span lands

you can't touch it or feel it in your hands

but you can see it traced in the lines of your face

the tears that once raced over bags,

dark circles embraced

now barely trickling as the well has run dry

Time...

can make you cry

as it tiptoes away

never once stopping to say goodbye
