Man in black

Long coat.

Shades of midnight.

A silhouette under blinding streetlight.

Walks slowly as the drizzle begins,

the old man lost in a world that doesn't spin,

that doesn't sing, isn't in tune with him.

The man in black skulks around,

the streets he prowls,

barely making a sound.

Under darkest night he scowls

at the roaring rain as it pours down

and the wicked wind as it howls.

Talks to himself, a battle in his head.

Animated conversations with ghosts he's come to dread.

His arms flap and flail,

like he's being directed by a puppeteer

telling some dark and harrowing tale.

The man in black, can't turn back,

he is on his path, trying to avoid its cracks.

Old face haggard and worn,

hides his form behind the darkness forlorn.

Walks with a limp, and whisky addled stumble.

Mind lost in his world as it crumbles.

The rains tumble, and puddles emerge,

he wishes for a flood to come and submerge.

Love changes us

Love changes us, a picture incomplete

is like a puzzle, pieces need to meet.

Key to the future, a kiss to greet

unlocks great wonders, this amazing feat.

The way it opens by hand

door ways to new lands

within ourselves.

Don't question, just be yourself

let love inside

darkness will run and hide.

In times of trouble love will guide.

Smile when love gives you its time

and don't let that time fly, let it seep over you,

laugh at the silly things it makes you do.

Don't fear letting it into your heart,

let it inscribe its initials, like letters carved on a tree’s bark.

Demons may taunt, they may laugh and point,

ruin their fun, enjoy your time in the sun.

The heart inside smiles,

show the world your brightest profile

We are the future, the past and today,

only we can make the world okay.

Get in line, join the queue

one more time, let love be true.

Chance to change, a brand new page

live It well, say farewell To rage.

It is what life is for - love beats war.

Full is the heart, let it pour,

flow towards the one that you adore

Welcome Inn

We pass street signs,

roads to nowhere,

pothole lined.

Like travelling back

Into the mists of time.

Sharp turns,

tyre marks show danger zones.

Off the beaten path,

dirt road trails endeavour to stop us in our tracks,

try to end our tales

Postcard cottages,

picture book views,

quaint little villages we pass through.

Seeking beauty - some majestic treasure.

A place hidden from maps,

a shoreline cliffside,

crumbling under gravity's pressure.

Views that bring us such pleasure,

watching sunsets at our leisure

Morning light,

sunrise over hilltop paradise.

Our destination, unplanned,

let the road guide,

through the grassland,

under graffiti tagged bridges

connecting fields across the asphalt scars

of this wondrous countryside

and the views it imparts.

Energy flagging,

eye lids sagging.

Weary, we wonder in.

A welcome inn with logs burning,

some hearty food to restoke the fires.

A drink to quench the thirst is what we desire.

A room for the night,

doesn't have to be a palatial retreat,

just a place for sleep

and it's back on the road again.

We have so much more beauty to seek,

so much to be shown.

When we take the road unknown.
