Undelivered

Life always promised,

but never delivered.

So now I take

a pinch of salt

and throw it

into the air.

See where it lands,

and start to head there.

Following the sands

like breadcrumbs

laid by a kindly hand.

Love never seems easy,

too much hope breeds insanity.

I flee the madness

that grows internally.

I walk tirelessly

wishing for my path

to one day find me,

but so far, I'm walking along

this dirt siding alone,

watching nature idly passing by

as I try to atone

for something I've haven’t done.

My silent tongue sits,

tormenting my lips.

"Just let your words out",

my brain insists.

But they are not in sync,

my words only come

when I'm letting my pen sink

into softened pages.

My words sit

amongst the ink blot puddles,

and I'm too puzzled

by the universal riddles

that spin through my head

as I try to sleep.

In the deepening silence

when inspiration is tired,

the pen doesn't move,

only again starting to flow

when my mind slows

and the music sings

over its own unique groove.

The words sit glowing,

seeking approval,

but I'm just a conduit,

to the consciousness

that floats throughout

the cosmic waterways,

just a vessel, for the words

to use as a base.

I want to feel summer

float through me

and feel that heat glow

eternally.

Those feelings

I've missed so much,

the rush

of holding onto love.

The flush of hearts

soaring

too close to the sun.

When all the flowers open,

and the colours run,

blending into everyone.

Sit back and watch the fairies play

It can sometimes feel

like your pathway is set.

You can try to step off,

but you keep on returning back.

It's like a mind trap.

It encloses you in,

even when you think you’re out,

it's just around you like vultures circling,

ready to leave you

slain, stained

in a blood-soaked scream.

It always leaves you

at the gates

to the land of the strange,

it doesn't matter

what variables you change.

Light is consumed

by the mind trap fiends,

creepy beings,

that want to devour your feelings

and suck out your dreams.

They try to keep you

following the twisted path,

wordlessly saying it's the only way,

speaking menacingly in silent stares,

their words seep into your ears.

Timidly you trudge on,

too afraid of what could be near.

As you walk, feet bleeding,

aching feelings

shooting up your spine.

The beings just out of sight

are thinking

it's almost time to dine.

But you plough on,

eyes always looking forwards,

watching the pathway

beckon you along.

Light doesn't grow

on trees, but sometimes

the sun shines through the leaves,

showing other paths that you could reach.

You take a step away

from the route you are on,

ignoring the creeping fiends

and their vicious songs.

Follow the twinkling light beams

towards fairytale happy dreams.

The land of the strange can wait.

Fate has a way

of putting us on that path again,

but until that day I'll just sit back

and watch the fairies play.

A coating of misery

Mistakes and misread signs,

led down darkened lanes,

a dead end with no hope to find.

In the wispy dreams that visit

I see so much joy and glee,

inspiring me to join the party.

but in reality, only bleak

empty landscapes surround me.

Misery wears itself like a coat

with many holes, hiding the skin,

covering the cracks

that peer out from within,

but still letting the cold get in,

rain still soaking

the shredded garments beneath.

Sometimes the pathway highlighted

by a thousand streetlights will lead you

to feel down and out.

It lies, proclaiming better things sit

just over the hill rise, but as you climb,

grit embedded in the palms of your hands,

you realise that this hill just hides

a million more, each more treacherous

than the one before.

Sometimes it's better

to stick to the darkness.

Follow the path you know

like the back of your hand.

Unplanned events will come,

some making the journey slow,

others showing you the kindness

that hides in this darkened land.

I wear my hope, like a hat,

brimming with moments that

enlighten the mind.

I don't let the coat of misery

drag me down, or weigh too heavily

over these shoulders that have already

carried that misery for such a long time.

Now it's time to seek the sunshine,

which always follows

the darkest night

The magic light,

which makes

the world feel alright.
