Most dreams fade
when we wake,
but some of them
Stick around to play.
Don’t let nightmares
scare your heart away,
killing your peace.
Hold back the screams,
that once started,
will never cease.
You try to sleep
through the pain,
listening to the sound
of your heartbeat,
as it cracks
into splinters again.
Ice cold fingers
touching bare skin.
Soul soiled, tarnished,
left stone cold because
you let the demons win.
Most dreams fade
when the light of day
breaks through the shade.
When the sunbeams
dance and play,
but some nightmares
never stop repeating.
Heart keeps beating.
Faster and faster.
As you soak in the sweat
dripping from your head.
You can feel the cold,
dragging chains of dread.
You try to sleep,
to blot out the noise.
To stop the demonic uproar,
but then are greeted
with devilish applause,
as you meet the host of hell.
Crisp and toasted from the roasting heat.
Upturned smile never forms on singed lips,
just a grimace,
a frown never flipped around.
Sunshine that hides forever
in the darkness that surrounds.
Most dreams fade
when you wake,
but make no mistake,
these nightmares
of lands baked in fire.
Where you perspire
lava hot sweat.
These nightmares
you will never forget.
