This road I've travelled
alone so many times.
The pack scented danger
scarpered into the night,
scattered into the wild rains.
So now here I stand,
a lone wolf
once again
looking for some insight.
I've walked this path
So many times before,
I've felt the stony gravel
caught between my claws.
I know it's twists and turns,
like the back of my paw.
I know the places for food,
the best watering spots
but now I don't get to share them
and that was the best part for sure
I have been a lone wolf
for so many years,
I have survived on scraps,
I've fought back tears,
but I'm getting old
and truth be told,
I quite enjoy company,
Now my tail is down,
my fur is matted,
my growl may be a whimper,
but I won't let it hinder.
I've been a lone traveller
on these roads
in howling winds.
I've taken every turn
that the world
presents to me.
I've felt
the harshest
winter stings.
I've heard
my death bells ring
one too many times.
So, I'll just keep walking
and see what the world
shows me
head bowed down for now.
