Earth Mark Two (with Video)

Takes off with a whoosh, as the engines combust
we hit full thrust
our rockets boost us towards the stars, farewell to this earth shaped hell
cracking through the outer stew of our atmospheric shell

And we are in space, viewed through a tiny window its so difficult to perceive
it seems to be so much more colourful than I was led to believe
not just a blank black state, its a clean slate, with magic between the stars to fascinate
a universe ahead, just a dead planet in our stead, we take our time to contemplate

I see the world waving so long, the dusty smoke clouds visible to all
a sad goodbye to our last known ally, our home for so long - now just a place to recall
we fly, through the stardust nebula, passed meteors and comets
like floating dreams where we take to the air, we soar up there with so much promise

We sail past planets with oceans of rainbow water, vast depths to discover
where diamond rains fall, reflecting prisms of light into kaleidoscopic colours
and yet I still miss home, its greens and blues, the trees we knew
all of the wonders that we neglected before the last days were due

So far away, in some distant galaxy, passed alien wonders
monolithic structures, strange fauna, storms of unearthly thunder
all so beautiful, yet it feels so lonely
if only we could share this with home, if only

Supernova star burst blinds the sky, in our new home
two moons and rolling sand dunes, an atmospheric dome
the fuel was running low, so this will have to do
we rebuild in this place - now renamed Earth mark two

Alone, in the unknown

Alone, in the unknown
a stones throw from home
but a million miles from happiness
I brave the cold, as I stare into the dark abyss
dreaming of the love I miss, whilst I walk in this wilderness

The long dead hours between sunset and sunrise
when the hands of the clock tick past in slow demise
darkness surrounds like a bottomless pit,
a hole ripped in the universe into which I'm falling
somewhere in the distance I hear my love calling

I close my eyes

At home in the far away, the land that wakes when this one sleeps
its heard my laughs and comforted me when I weep
the place where in distant dreams I've seen peace and harmony
love and honesty
hope and truth dancing merrily
This place surrounds you in warmth and colour
joy, like a red hot summer
it gives you a place to simmer and let thoughts shimmer
growing in the mind like flowers near a river

Where happiness lives in a beachside house
and frozen cold thoughts are not allowed
and in the distance I hear my love call
never far away, I walk to her, and deeper in love I fall
she wont be there when I wake, she lives here by the lake
here in this dreamscape, a place to escape

WW3 with video

Starts as a slow thud, like a heartbeat
can you hear it, insidiously it creeps
through the night sky, washes the morning sun in a blood red tone
the sounds get louder, a marching chanting chorus of anger shown
weve heard it before, the ever growing drum of war
I hear them starting to roar

A drone strike at night
to the delight of the far right
the flash, is it a spark, to light
the tinderbox of war, to ignite the world on a path
to drive us down a road to which there is only one aftermath
I hear the drums start to pound

Murmurs in the media circus
in the right circuits, the serpents are lurking - ready to strike
not like clowns with custard pies, this time we will lose innocent lives
warmongers, walk among us, but they don't preside over the other side
they walk with our flags painted in pride - because so many sheep will just abide
The drums are getting louder

When the innocent start to die, when hospitals are torn down with missile fire
when the world is caught in the crossfire, I have to enquire
where will our anger flow?
Towards the ones that just want to profit from war
or to some country that we are told to abhor, by the news media corps
The drums are blaring out

Let the words sink in, we are sinking
the world is on the brink and the lights are all blinking
on a collision course with no way to avoid the oncoming wall
our engines at full pelt we are gonna crash and fall
to put it another way, we are fucked, the glue has become unstuck
so without change the world is gonna suck, I can only wish us good luck
the drums are drowning our shouts

War always gets the media applause, it always arouses those in power
but its not them that will be facing their final hours
its you and me, friends and family, normal people going about their daily chores
unless we stand, united as one, 7 billion strong against an enemy of suited elite bores
stop the drums from sounding

Paranoid

Paranoid thoughts creep over the mind as it tries to sleep at night
but sometimes the paranoia is right, there are monsters just out of sight
Ive met a few, they dig into your soul until they get a piece that they can unravel
they touch your heart with a sliver of ice, that at first feels nice then soon all becomes fragile
sometimes they are out to cause hurt, with games played to break you
make you doubt your brain, make you mistrust the truth

They set traps to ensnare you, then they push you down
as they laugh through upside down painted frowns
crooked smiles they crack, to make you trust
they crack your iron like shell as if its made of rust
Ive met a few, they sliver, into your life with a promise
then let it disintegrate like dust, feeding you with lies so dishonest

They eat at your pain, before piling it all back
so that it builds up again, the cycle continues always along the same track
they make you doubt your mind, the things you did, the things you said
none of it feels real, they take your thoughts and twist them till they are no better than dead
Ive met a few, been caught in their stagnant air
whilst they prowl around their lair, treating you with disdain until you do despair

The paranoia builds it makes it so hard to trust, but some are good
they don't aim to draw blood, they offer hope in the darkest scariest floods
they give light in the moments when blackness is all you see
when inky waters are consuming you and its a struggle to breath
Ive met a few, some of the best people I could hope to know
they give you life when death is all you feel
and to them I offer love and care for it is all that I can show

Lonely Ghost

Frequents the same dives
seeing the same undead zombie masses living brain-dead lives
night after night
like rabbits lost in headlights

Same old haunts as before
was here yesterday, just like everyday
my history no mystery, was here in this purgatory
never seems to change, the tone lies in drunken ears
time flows past, vast masses of years

This sticky dance floor, the sickly crowd, dancing not quite as slickly as before
a few stolen kisses, as the contents of spilled glasses swill on the dancefloor
nothing ever happens, the same sad advances
just trying to get laid to add to their tally
fumbled in back alleys
this is no life, not one to praise or shout about at rallies

Never changes, the lust, the lost trust, but turn up we must
for music and rhythm live inside, without dance its like our muscles would rust
without songs to sing along, our nights would be lost in a world of our own
but I don't like the tone, bad vibes are closing in, the place no longer a home from home

Need to change the record, the same spinning vinyl
twenty years ago, this life seemed so final
but then things DO change, the stains of time can be washed clean
the memories of time spent in pain, can be given a new sheen

I was never for that life, didn't need drugs to enhance my mind
nor did I strive to get one over on my fellow kind
I wasn't interested in getting notches on my bedpost
that life is not one of which id boast
my only hope back then was to feel I fit in, to feel I wasn't a lost lonely ghost

Beauty

Beauty; so much more than looks
deep inside it resides like words, hidden between covers of books
internal galaxies with so much to see
that mere words cannot bring justice to or set free

Beauty is kindness, a heartbeat of generosity
a friendly smile, a hand held out to comfort those in need
beauty doesn't live on the surface, it isn't like waves on a sea
it is the currents pulling deep inside, all that we can be

Beauty is fragile, a delicate glass vessel that can be damaged easily
one that can be shattered if people abuse its sincerity
it often hides, shy and afraid but beauty is our soul given a chance to breathe
it isn't like a neon sign pointing to itself in the dim streets of life we lead

Beauty is more than a pretty face or a nice body, its deeper than that
it can be the smallest act, the way that you make someone feel when they are feeling flat
it is honesty and truth, like a river washing through the lies and misuse
beauty isn't the outside view, it lives deep inside you

Beauty lives in the nervous tics, the little stuttered words that fall from your lips
the ones that show that you care for peoples welfare, the hand you hold out when people slip
its in the mind, that the true beauty is found
the powerful place where love and hope abound

I often look in the mirror, as so many of us do
wondering what I have to offer, why would anyone take a second view
I used to fear the reflection staring back at me, now I look inside to see
the person that someday will be set free

Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow

Swept By on the crest of a wave
an emotional tidal cascade
a fresh hello, and a stuttered goodbye
saw the day in with a smile, a sigh and a lone tear sat in the corner of my eye
for those we lost I let out a silent cry
wept a thousand waterfalls inside and looked to the sky

Swept by, on the tides of this ocean wide
an emotional high and a low that grinds
Wanted to both punch the sky
and at the same time curl up and die
strange potions flow, glasses of every shape and colour on show
held the heartbeat of the night, felt my own walking in the shadow

Swept up in the moment, the current flowing wild and free
a day to say goodbye to those demons that haunted my dreams
visions in the past that still taunted me, I let them be
no longer confronted by the thoughts of pain, I let comfort lead
as she danced merrily, I smiled at those distant rains
and swore to make this year better for all, the resolution that flows in my veins
