"With Love"

Like a present

wrapped in shiny paper,

gift tags addressed to my heart.

Like a letter,

written in flowing calligraphy

'with love'

it would start.

Words that decorate my soul

like a room alive with sparkling lights,

and dazzling sights

not an empty hole, frozen and cold

Honesty and loyalty,

a gift to me.

Like a stocking hanging from a fireplace.

A mystery, waiting under yule tide tree.

Embers dancing merrily,

whilst my heart flickers back to life internally.

A feeling I want to embrace,

let my heartbeat race,

for the rest of my days.

Like a gift given from above,

your beauty radiates love.

Like the sun, washes over me

like waves rippling on the sea.

The angel atop my Christmas tree

perfection entwined in tinsel bows,

Mistletoe, wine

and flurries of snow.

Painted hearts, holly berry red

a kiss from me,

placed on your head

The Year That Wasn't

The year that wasn’t

that never was

passed by in silent internal cries

inside walls watching clocks crawl on by

months watching paint dry,

until flakes crumbled into dusty reminders

of outside before the virus

The year that started as a slow stumble

before falling into a long tumble,

downhill as the walls around

started to crumble

1 to 10,

this was a 99 on the sliding scale

as the internal storms turned to hail

the weather reminds of a time before

the virus decided to knock at our door

Like stories of war,

fought an enemy we hadn't faced before

and lost

we felt the cost, a summer of frost

lives cut short, no sunshine to report

just us in the onslaught, under the wheels

a mere afterthought

of this virus juggernaut

In the year that never was

I found my heart

that I thought forever lost

I found hope in smiles cast

hands held in the wreckage

of this infectious bomb blast

I fell to my knees

as kisses freed me from chains

the virus still looming uncontained

As the year edges closer to the end

fireworks will once again

fill the sky with gunpowder rain

but will life ever be the same

will we be able to turn on a tv

and not hear the virus' name?

will we be able to congregate without fear?

Here’s wishing on a better new year

Mistletoe Kisses

Like stars in a clear sky

lights sparkle and twinkle as colours intensify

illuminating the darkened air

breath evaporating against the chill

like a spirit departing the glare

the air dead still

Baubles red and gold

promise of heat against the cold

as snow teases its powdery arrival

just a sprinkle of flakes dusting the ground

begging for survival

Candles flicker against windowpane screens

misty air envelops the wintery scene

for a moment it's like the world has travelled back in time

a Dickensian picture of yule time mulled wine

and Christmases entwined in mistletoe kisses

the icy chill as the air fills with moonlit snow confetti wishes

The ghostly echoes of festive songs

church bells ringing along

Fir tree scented air, tinged with nutmeg and cinnamon

the dazzling glare of rainbow lights

scaring demons out of sight

as carol singers huddle close and sing silent night

the snow falls faster, the ground now glistening

a thin layer of crisp white

untouched under starlight twinkling

Ice forming, waterways glinting

like they hold light within

the cold touch of winter fingers

against delicate skin

like a snow globe fantasy

shook up, flurries of crystalline dreams

shimmering in the gleam of shining moonbeams

Peace & Love.
