Storied walls into the vastness of time

The shelves stretch off

as far as weary eyes can see.

Storied walls into the

vastness of time, the chasms of history.

Consuming every word,

like Venus fly traps,

snapping at any morsel letter

that bumbles through,

adding them to

the magnitudes of

manuscripts that blow

across the cavernous room.

Ripped, torn pages

that hold secrets

tearstain glued

between.

The shelves stretch,

like damp walls of a well,

deep into the depths, the bowels of hell.

Dimensions, mean nothing

up is down, left is circling around,

and right is acting the clown.

There is magic in the storied leaves

of these majestic trees.

Letters move

like fridge magnets

across the winsome breeze.

The canyon of glass

that adorns the pathway

is filled with verse,

etched upon the clear surface,

The seating all made of words,

twisted into shape

 to rest wearisome feet.

Even the food

from the little cafe,

along the everlasting walkway,

is served in edible words,

strung together like spaghetti

spilling truths down jumpers,

as you go about your day.

But not everything

is so peaceful

in this world of words.

The deceitful shadows

hide secrets,

too delicate

for even shadows to hold,

too scary

for ears to behold,

too terrifying

for eyes to unsee.

Let's hope no one

ever let's these words float free.

Faces in the mist

Faces appear,

highlights in the headlights,

cutting the mist

as we hit the lows.

They fleet through

windscreen view,

Distorted screams,

discordant constructs,

echoes that can be true,

but the screams that erupt

sound so real

as we drive

into the deepening blue.

Faces leer, bringing fear

to bloodshot eyes.

Deadlights in the low light

on this night of bad tides.

Wheels splatter mud,

struggling to grip,

This road feels evil.

No good can come

from this trip.

Faces from your

worst nightmares,

only now they are there,

created by the foggy air.

They appear in a blink,

into our reality they slip.

The link between dreams

and this supposed real life.

They appear,

in the slick veneer of night,

and disappear just as quick.

A trick of the light

playinh games on our fear?

Faces come near,

through windscreen they peer,

licking their crumbling lips,

inspiring fear.

Firing thoughts that never seem to end.

What could be waiting for us

around the next bend?

Faces loom close,

through misty car windows.

Fading vapours, yesterday echoes,

that swirl into the air.

Blink and you'd

forever be missed,

no one would ever

know you were there,

or that the faces exist.

Mimic

We have memories

that span lifetimes,

yet other ones

slip by the wayside.

Moments so momentous

they crash right out of

the frame.

We can't entertain them,

or even give them a name.

We certainly can't ascertain

with any certainty,

that it isn't just misfiring

exhaustion from a tired brain.

The moments

when we see beyond the veil.

When we realise

this life is only a tale,

and the world,

just a page

over which we will sail.

In these moments

we see

the other,

the extraordinary,

the supernatural.

Entities from dimensions

which live

undercover.

They sit undiscovered

simultaneously

next to ours.

We look up

expecting beings from Mars,

beyond the stars,

not noticing the ones

that pop through

the universal scars.

In those mountainous moments,

when memory has peaked

and leapt away from you.

It's not that your

thoughts have leaked,

but that these beings

are seeping through.

Creeping into the room,

trailing you, examining you,

probing the things you do.

Learning to mimic every move,

so they can consume,

then replicate

and reproduce.

Sometimes we hear them.

Voices when we are alone,

voices that sound like loved ones

when those loved ones are not home.

Sometimes the voices

even sound like our own,

If you hear them, don't entertain,

they will latch on

like a leech feasting on a brain.
