Prisoner of the Heart book

Paperback and Kindle editions now live.
So here it is, my 2nd collection of poems.

This collection takes a journey into the prison of the heart.
It touches on many aspects of love,
from its highest peaks to the deepest lows.
The joys and pains, feel your heartbeat race
so take a tour amongst the chains, let it embrace
Just be aware, from the prison of the heart,
there is no escape, none depart.

And seeing as it is almost christmas I have reduced the price on my first book until January.
They make great stocking fillers, if your stockings are book shaped, if not then they go equally as well wrapped in shiny paper underneath a christmas tree....

Thanks for reading

11-11

Smoky haze, in the cold November air
to mark the day, cannons blare
the day the guns fell into silence
conversation began, an end to violence

No more we said, never again, how wrong we were
the guns went quiet, a lull in the fighting there
a chance to air some sense and let the violence cease
stop the blood from staining the lands, bring peace

With death they flirt, in this bloodstained dirt
the lives taken without thought, never forget the hurt
saw sense for the first time, as the end neared
the guns stopped firing, gunpowder filled air clears

Stand in silence like those weapons did
remember the loss, man created
remember the hurt we cause
the pain we bring
there are no "good" wars
lets shed a tear even if they sting

The lights flickered out over town
lives lost, in tears we drown
created an impossible dream
brought us together, the fairytale team

A soul filled with gifts
heart that gave our city a lift
so many smiles were lit
as we made history with true grit

Got us all singing the same songs
gave us hope, made us strong
touched us with your generosity
a wash of blue covered our city

A sea of flags, scarves and shirts
we owe you our tears, even though they hurt
gave us our best days
for you we will all pray

My thoughts go out to everyone affected by the tragic events at my home town football club.
Have had so many good days at the stadium, saw this team defeat the odds and have shed tears of joy, now we shed tears of sadness.
Peace & Love.

In Silence

In silence, too soon
just ashes, burnt too bright
like the shining full moon
on a long, dark, winter night

No voice, just echoes in the wind
rustling leaves that whisper in the breeze
brief glimpses of dreams, lights dimmed
as the oceans of time freeze

No sounds, as darkness forces down
mistakes and fragments shake the peace
the ground swallows me whole, will I be found?
the earthquake of emotions increase

Pages of the book tear out and flutter
they take to the air, like birds of prey
feel my throat start to stutter
as the sun rises on a new day

History, a story fixed in place
past memories no longer matter
our future is here as we race
to watch the old days shatter

No exit

Cant leave, even though my head screams
stuck in this everlasting nightmare, it seems
like groundhog day, a constant replay
a feeling I cant gouge away

Stuck in this maze, endless corridors of pain
no way out, memories trickle in, like rain
searching for an exit, the door no longer open
just a long path, running in slow motion

Like a runaway train, on a circular track
cant get off, cant stop the flashbacks
the same view, on a continual cycle
falling into a downward spiral

A change of view, something new
a break from the ceaseless review
wake from the dreams, escape from the maze
stop the moving engine, enjoy the days

Remove yourself from the conflict
no need to feel you have slipped
find the positive spin, keep negativity apart
let the new day begin, with a fresh start

You and I

Every night, the same dream
a beautiful scene
you and I, hand in hand
walking the streets of a foreign land

When night descends I hear the calls
as I drift, the vision enthrals
you and I, under a blanket of stars
warm in each others arms

Beneath this canopy of constellations
sleep, a treat, Love's destinations
you and I, a blinding sight in the sky
as we feel the passion electrify

With the moon a guiding light
deep in the dark of night
you and I, a dream away, in a land so free
all I ask, please don't wake me

Musical healing

Music soothes, its golden grooves hold smooth
no pain in the dark, when the soulful sounds move
crystallised tones ease pain, shine through the darkness
cut through rain, a lighthouse in a storm so heartless

The sounds brought to life, given a light
a torch to carry, through the forest of night
an adventure, a road trip to a far away town
when the songs play, nothing gets you down

The beat like the one in my heart
holds the body safe, never apart
the rhythm takes us higher, flying past stars
into space, a great escape, this music forever ours

A moment of clarity as the melody drifts, floats and lifts
pulls you up from the dirt, showers with it's gifts
nothing can hurt, when you hear those notes
when the world feels bleak, music is the perfect antidote

Dreams in a heartbeat

Keep my dreams locked close to my heart
to keep them from tearing apart
safe from harm, held tight in a cuddle
to never get lost in life's hustle and bustle

I hold my dreams close, to never let them drift
never to lose a second of the bliss
filled with hopes, love and joy unbound
let them keep me warm, safe and sound

I feel my dreams as they touch my heartbeat
their delicate fingers soothing and sweet
giving me strength to go on
even when the days are so cold and long

Some days I feel them trying to burst free
to lighten the darkness surrounding me
but I pull them in close
never to be let loose

I savour those moments when I lay at night
just drifting off in the moonlight
my dreams and me, perfect company
take me away in a colourful symphony

Rose

The rose I gave made it all worse
the thorns that pierce and curse
stick in veins so deeply
lets the blood flow freely

The flowers forced thoughts to flee
flowing rivers of remorse run free
that red rose, its symbol of hope
just a red flag, a slippery slope

The feelings, a growing mystery
petals fell, the moment it hit me
just a trick of the light
at play in the dark of night

No longer a flower in the breeze
just a stem with no leaves
no petals, no colour or scent
no beauty where it went

Forever trapped in the past
where the flowers were seen last
planted those seeds, they bled me dry
under an amber coloured sky

Feed

You feed off my good side
eat away my last crumbs of pride
tear at this flesh, like I'm a piece of meat
push me down as I fall at your feet

Dine on my self control
digest all that built my soul
devour the sour thoughts that grow
just a shadow on show, footprints on fresh snow

Hungry for more, you just keep taking
a buffet of my heart, you put the stake in
drank my blood, every last drop
now just bones on the ground, I stop

Pick apart the pieces remaining
cant leave a scrap, wont hear me complaining
as I lay out this tablecloth of tears
a meal for all to last for years

Fill your plate, enjoy the taste
feed the world, don't let it go to waste
A banquet for all, to share with love
as the stars glisten in the sky above

Shapeshift

These circles, I just dont fit
my squared edges wont submit
surrounded by triangles, so many voices
no shape to find my words, cant focus

So many edges, like an hexagonal piece
when all I want is a straight line between
our sides are not equal, you have too many faces
too many dark corners in these cold places

The angles are not right, too sharp they cut deep
cant find my feet, the sides all too steep
my straightened walls, your whole view curled
two dimensional feelings in a 3d world

You shift the shapes to fit the borders
bend the boundaries to avoid the horrors
you add to the barriers, creating new shape
searching forever, that true escape

Realistic Poetry International review

Prisoner of the Mind by Kyle Coare Reviewed by Realistic Poetry International

“Scars never heal, they reveal your soul, heart, your whole” -from “Cut”

Smooth and lyrical, Kyle Coare’s Prisoner of the Mind is like a glimpse of bright sun awakening a forgotten cell. It is a fresh ray of hope burning through a mire of despair, and yet it also acknowledges its darkness openly, without fear or shame.

Death and inner turmoil are heavy themes in this collection. Whether they are creating a soulful sense of optimism for the future or diving into the hellish depths of the past, these poems are brimming with raw emotion. Coare’s language is swift and powerful like a tribal drumbeat.  Prisoner of the Mind also tackles tough and personal subjects such as suicide, depression, alcoholism, substance addiction and mental illness with the same unwavering frankness and feeling.

“The look in your eyes, you want to be anywhere but here You always smile before you dig the knife in, What are you running from? What do you fear? Days lost to drug-filled rage, can you still find love within? Find a place in this world, turn a new page.” -from “Running”

Prisoner of the Mind is a work of pure tears, love, and crimson with blood. I feel it will resonate with many readers, if not indeed every reader in one way or another. I highly recommend it with a solid 5 out of 5 stars. It had many strong points, but those which stood out most I believe, are “Forest of Hate”, “Running”, “Self Destruct”, “Shattered Mirror”, “Graveyard Judges” and “Cut”.
