Book of Secrets

This book of secrets, too many to share
the tales within, mine to bare
into a land of fantasy we fall
where we can be anyone at all

This book of shadows, my legacy, a journey
a journal about a mind set free
a word painted world for all to adore
the land of the night, into dreams we pour

This book of the night, where the mind goes in wonder
soaking in memories, moments to ponder
through visions so vivid, into worlds of colour
the love and laughter, ours to discover

This book of my life, a diary in verse
words twisted into fiction, with which to immerse
the feelings all real, they tell of a life
lived in the heart of the darkest nights

Words left unsaid

If I Whisper the words, let them drift to the stars
would they reach your ears, or float away to mars
would they evaporate before they reach the clouds
lost in the atmosphere, would they rain back down

If I speak the words in an empty room
would you somehow know, would you hum the tune
or would they just live there, spectres in the air
ghosts of emotion laid bare

If I shout them loud, or write them down
would you hear the cries or read the lines
or would they just be words with no meaning
left to age without feeling

If I sing the words, a song with a melody
would you listen intently
or just dance to the beat, missing the point
as you shuffle your feet

Thanks for reading.

Foraging

Foraging for words in the forest of the mind
but the trees are dieing, the leaves hard to find
so I sit, silence all around
all of my memories, never to be found

Harvesting the fields of lost thoughts
but all I find is empty space, a sense of loss
search for miles, just rocky ground
all those ideas forever unowned

Picking the fruits from trees of hopes and dreams
but the rot has set in, can almost hear the screams
search high and low but not a single piece is left
all the wishes unblessed

Hunting the healing daydreams, fantastic and free
the dreamer cant get to sleep, silence so beastly
sough a seed, that will one day grow
and in time will form a new word meadow

Thanks for reading.

Review

So my first professional review is online for "Prisoner of the Mind" so if you just click the link below you can go to the webpage and give it a damn good reading, spoilers....  it gets 5 stars!!!

Realistic Poetry International review

https://www.realisticpoetry.com/single-post/2018/10/04/Prisoner-of-the-Mind-by-Author-Kyle-Coare-is-a-work-of-pure-tears-love-and-crimson-with-blood-Read-out-recent-5-star-review

Prisoner of the Mind by Kyle Coare Reviewed by Realistic Poetry International

“Scars never heal, they reveal your soul, heart, your whole” -from “Cut”

Smooth and lyrical, Kyle Coare’s Prisoner of the Mind is like a glimpse of bright sun awakening a forgotten cell. It is a fresh ray of hope burning through a mire of despair, and yet it also acknowledges its darkness openly, without fear or shame.

Death and inner turmoil are heavy themes in this collection. Whether they are creating a soulful sense of optimism for the future or diving into the hellish depths of the past, these poems are brimming with raw emotion. Coare’s language is swift and powerful like a tribal drumbeat.  Prisoner of the Mind also tackles tough and personal subjects such as suicide, depression, alcoholism, substance addiction and mental illness with the same unwavering frankness and feeling.

“The look in your eyes, you want to be anywhere but here You always smile before you dig the knife in, What are you running from? What do you fear? Days lost to drug-filled rage, can you still find love within? Find a place in this world, turn a new page.” -from “Running”

Prisoner of the Mind is a work of pure tears, love, and crimson with blood. I feel it will resonate with many readers, if not indeed every reader in one way or another. I highly recommend it with a solid 5 out of 5 stars. It had many strong points, but those which stood out most I believe, are “Forest of Hate”, “Running”, “Self Destruct”, “Shattered Mirror”, “Graveyard Judges” and “Cut”.

Three words

Written on a page, in a book
hidden away from view, you can never look
a short line says how I feel
three little words, not to be made real

If I speak them out loud
you could run into the crowd
id never see you again, cant let this friendship end
so I keep them near, written here, to never send

If those words touch your ears, my fears become real
you could turn on your heel
and here I would end, alone once again
wishing to just get washed up in the rain

Wish I could paint them in the sky,  would be the happiest guy
to say with pride the three words that I hide
but as the day turns to night the stars would fall down
ripping the words right down to the ground

So I let them sit on that page
under lock and key, in a darkened hidden cage
away from the light so no one can read
the words I write to you in my dreams

Trials

Always another answer
these trials, troubled times, tempting trances
grey gradients gradually give glances
below, beyond boundaries, beneath borders
colour creates, constantly cleanses corners
where wondering words work, wisely written worlds

Deep dark designs drift delightfully down, driven
forwards, forever, for fate flies free, forgiven
pen pushes purposely, paper painted poetically
life lived, loved, left longing, lonely
emotions elevated, entangled entwined
brightness builds brilliant, become blind

Defences dragged down, daylight dazzles
towards totality, tonally twisted, trampled
hurries, harries, homeward, herein
where whatever we want we will win
fast forward, flashes, free, fearless, flawless
peace, perfection, pure prevailing promise

Mental Blocks

A mental block, brain locked, thoughts shot dead
words stuck in the furthest reaches of my head
cant connect the dots, to let my imagination soar
or find an emotion to start this downpour

Want to close up, stay in bed, let the dreams fly
to inspire, to find a thread to pick, to kiss today goodbye
but then my mood will float like a stone
and my words will have the wrong tone

The flow feels wrong, the feelings I cant shout about
creative spark fizzled out, just left here filled with doubt
all the stories have dried up, in lockup
think maybe my brain is fried up

What if that is it, if there are no more words to write?
have I written all I have, are the words finite?
or is this just a bad day, with little to say
and will I wake with a sea of reflection to convey?

Superman

Not your superman
not a hero to thwart the villains master plan
not invulnerable, just an ordinary guy
more like Clarke Kent before he learnt to fly

Not in costume out fighting crimes
just a kind heart, I fall down sometimes
don't have any special powers, no good in a fight
I crack sometimes like the man of steel near Kryptonite

Cant put on a cape and tights, my underwear stays underneath
am scared of a crowd, just a guy who needs to breathe
not a picture of perfection
but have love, deep with affection

Not your superman or your dark knight
just a man with a pen, writes words, to fight
the injustice I see, the loveless hate and the greed
this life can be free, if we do what we need

Unspoken words

Type up a reply, ready to send
over the button I hang, the wrong way to end
should I just call, we could talk it over
maybe ill dial the number

Hover in place, words caught in my throat
just no escape, feel like I've lost hope
so I stall, wait till tomorrow falls
then I will make the call

We could meet for a meal or a drink
a day out, an evening to let our thoughts link
but if those words escaped, the three words I fear
then you could run and that's the last id hear

Cant decide how best to open up, to let you know
to express my inner most feelings, I'm no Romeo
you could be judge, jury, executioner of my heart
not sure it can take those poison darts

The words left unspoken as I leave to go
should have found the time to let my feelings show
now too late for the message to matter
fate so cruel and unkind, feel my heart shatter

The 200 Club

Two hundred posts have passed
I never believed id get here so fast
the words did flow, the writer did grow
as a poet as a person it helped him so

The people Ive met have become friends forever
those memories will live on and I will treasure
the path started bumpy with rocks aplenty
but at each stumble a hand helped me

So thanks to all who have walked with me on this
id give you all a hug and kiss
but yknow don't want to chafe my lips
when Ive got so many words to spit

Here's to the next few hundred posts
where ill lay into old ghosts
maybe tell a tale of love
or of aliens from above

Thanks to everyone who reads, you all matter, you are all part of the journey.
Love you all, be amazing, be unique, buy my book if you feel it is worth a read.

words in the air

Sometimes I dream of being, not physically there, just words in the air
no eyes can then stare at this heart laid bare
see an image of me, I want to cut free, remove the view
get rid of the face you see, just be my thoughts true

Sometimes I long to be just words, written on a screen
to not be seen, my face feels unclean
my words release my inner voice, my heart so clear
not the pain that rears when people come near

Sometimes I want to be words on the wind, lose the unease
floating thoughts flowing free, into the breeze
where I can stay out of sight
let my words lift off and take flight

Sometimes I think of being words on a page
they can last an age, and never let the fears upstage
as I hide away from the light
in the dark caves of the mind

Unwritten

The story unwritten, the pages sit empty
so many sheets ripped up, thrown away like confetti
ink blotted where jotted sketched words come from the brain
nothing flows right, the ink spills but the words refrain

The story still to write, its sweetest embrace always the next
each day a new line in the book, a fairytale text
to play in time a dance of like minds
entranced in a story that they share blind

The story of the day, a drama or a tragic joyride
hopefully not a horror, thriller, serial killer on the side
just a tale as old as time
two hearts colliding to dance in their primes

A fictional dream, a comedy to lighten the tone
a world to create, to make our own
a story fit to leap from the page
to live amongst the greats and share the stage

The final page remains clear
always blank, it speaks of a future yet to appear
unwritten the story doesn't end
just each day ours to mix the perfect blend

A wish away

Let the darkness sleep
as the day brings its love so deep
watch as moods evolve
flow through, let the hurt dissolve
A wish away from perfect

Let the gloom hide away from the sun
as two hearts become one
passion, emotion, collide with art and mind
let them create a world in kind
A wish away from perfect

Let the pain flow away, pull the plug on the bad days
as hope fills the room clears the decay, with a flowery bouquet
the chance to gain, grow and learn
let the heart share its new tune, let the passion burn
A wish away from perfect

Thanks for reading.

Messages

Walked away as the lights flicked on in my head
had too much been said, I fled
messages reread in my head
to see if they misled, fear bled into dread

Could be misread, was the message too openly worded
the thing with words on a page
is they can so easily be mistranslated
especially when the writer fears being read

What if the writer struggles to speak
can his words still make sense, be released
are they so deeply held that any deviation
derives different reactions to the questions within

In this time of social media, a message can cause conflict
just from the wrong emoji shown to the misunderstood tone
an autocorrect fail can make you sound out of line
so I walk away, sometimes, to help collect the mind

So quick and easy to say your piece, you just hit send
many ways this can be the cause of a friendships end
a heart left broken, so think before you let the words get spoken
or walk away for just a brief moment

spoken, written, nothing shows the truth like the look in the eyes
those moments where the room goes silent, except two beating hearts
the way the lips part, when close
the only words that count are those

Thanks for reading,
This piece was inspired by a few spoken word poets ive seen recently.
i wanted to play around with tone and delivery in the piece.
Hope you enjoy, peace and love.

Stardust (revised)

Where do we reside, is it inside?
between the bones, behind the eyes, now open wide
in our touches, tastes, the ears, nose and mouth, a work of art
our senses set alive, like a lightning bolt to the heart

Is it within our skin, the fleeting touch of a delicate flower
a tender kiss from a passionate lover
in our heads? the mind alive, thoughts breed and artistry bleeds
or do we float around, outside watching on, just planting the seeds

Flowing through every thought, each tickle and sting
every grin, each grain of sand, smiles seen, every time we sing
we are all and everything, the universe as one
we are consciousness, so please hear our songs

We are stardust, we are the collective
try looking from a new perspective
share the love, give peace a chance
be one with all, join the great universal dance

Living, breathing, thinking, feeling, loving, caring, sharing
no need for pain, a life led despairing
no labels to cause strife, just our part in the great story
our roles to play into history

Thanks for reading,
Peace and love.

Prisoner of the heart

Here sits the prisoner of the heart
frozen in place, so wishes to depart
to explore the lands outside the four walls
the city of love, his destination calls

Sat head bowed, reflects on how this came to be
a crime never committed, longing to be free
can the prisoner ever be released, too institutionalised
can he find his path, ignoring the pasts lies

Can freedom be granted, unlocking the door to this shell
so much to give, but too much fear, this heart shaped hell
his jailer rattles the keys tauntingly
just wants to be free

In solitary, no way to escape, bangs on the walls
no one hears his calls, contained, always afraid, heart falls
the grey stone, all that hears his thoughts
tears drip on the cold floor, his heart tied in knots

The prisoner sits and weeps, his heart never sleeps
thinks of the perfect life, with you by his side, his pain deep
could be your prince, your king, the one of which you sing
but the walls stop you from ever knowing him

Dreams of open spaces, his heart an open book
a kiss as eyes touch, into each other they look
a tsunami of love washes over, as hearts meld
crashing, breaks down the walls to his cell

Thanks for reading, Peace and Love.

80's Computer games

Remember the past, when video games began
oh the joy when we typed load"", and out those sounds rang
we could enter a world of imagination, joy, terror
as long as we don't get the dreaded rtape loading error

For me ZX Spectrum was king
48k of pure power, we could do anything
those days games would last, more than an hour at best
most time spent praying to the gods of tape loading, if we're honest

The games we did play, was head over heels with batman, never wanted to go back to skool
A great escape, to spend three weeks in paradise, we could even Sim a city, how cool
Joined the jet set with willy, whilst getting dizzy over wizball
Lets go Mr Driver sang Nancy at Chase H.Q. as we boasted about it all

Through the trapdoor we went, to play with our heroes
when ants attack, when the fuse is lit, we need bomb jack, not zeroes
Robocop, died more times than i care to count on level one, just so much crime
but with Patience i cracked it about knight tyme

Sports fans, had a ball, no need for fresh air
match day, football manager, Emlyn Hughes, never need to leave our lair
we could conquer galaxies, take out trash hack the world,so much to see
just pray to the gods that your game is still running, when you get back from tea

Thanks for reading, this was a trip down memory lane.

Words

Words flutter by
like a butterfly, its wings singing a lullaby
in words, we can find peace
end wars, stop disease

in verse, we can set free
chained emotions released into beauty
in an uttered sentence, we can gain freedom
a place to let our thoughts grow, reborn

our phrases can show more than actions would
a longing gaze in word form, words can really love
an embrace with a loved one, can be written like a song
a deep moment shared between two who forever long, to belong

words can also bring pain
a twisted line, like a knife to a vein
words can erupt out, an anger so vicious
we can use to express doubt, or to show distrust

words have power, a magic unequalled, use them wisely
don't abuse them, they need nurturing kindly
set them free to show beauty
the way the world should be

Thanks for reading, peace and love.

London

The juxtaposition of old and new
where glass and steel stand high and tall
next to cobbled lanes, alleyways, old abandoned market stalls
palaces, towers, bridges, so much to view

The history, the many mysteries, this city
so big, so full, it can swallow you whole
as you stroll down its lanes, its a maze like patrol
can feel dark and dirty, downright gritty, it can also be so pretty

Walk in the footsteps of gangsters, killers, criminals and thieves
alongside royalty, kings and queens, authors, artists, musicians and poets
take the path of the rippers of the past, tour through their minds, at their lowest
their shadows remain in the darkness of night, under the moonlight, the city breathes

pass through a way, where back in the day, a flame, an ember, a spark
ignited the city burned down its heart, caused a lot of misery
a monument remains to mark the place, just a flicker of history
next to a skyscraper that glints in the lights, a beacon, a landmark

The homes of celebrities from the past, the old familiar names
the street signs, the names so ingrained in our minds
political figures and people of lore, history books tell us of their times
this city so full, of life and soul, so enjoyable to walk its old lanes

A drink to the past, a watering hole with a story
The Blind Beggar, The Ten Bells, these told of mystery
others where music bleeds and artistry was freed
where poets and writers, great thinkers let thoughts breed

This city so dark, harsh and scary
yet kind warm and full of heart
the memories I take away with me, will forever be a part
to look at when times are cold, it is truly legendary

Thanks for reading,
Kyle.

Drawn to life

Try to stay between the lines
as you add the colour to me
the image becomes real and defines
it all adds detail you see

No longer two dimensional
now a fuller picture
so much still hidden, but gradually revealing, inspirational
as the tones are added to the skin, giving structure

With history, a story, a mystery show
until the layers unravel, unwrap and I appear unhatched
reborn, a newborn, with a true glow, your pen drew it so
added depth to the flat picture, no longer shackled, I am unlatched

You drew me out, drawn to you
see the world through eyes so free
an artistic point of view
you unchain the real me

The picture has clarity, imagination and a sense of emotion
a playful smile with a twinkling eye
as you hide the darkness with artistic solutions
as the light hits the shade, and the colour brightens this once lost guy

Thanks for reading.
