"Everything dies
This is the only constant.
It's true
when our time is due
we will depart,
but that time
isn't now"
he thought
as the sky
ripped apart.
"Everything dies"
That croaky voice
like insects
invading his ears.
itching inside,
they nest in his mind.
"Everything dies
Is it nearing that time?
close to the end of the line."
The light in the sky
blinding his eyes.
"Everything dies.
Why is that thought
implanted in my head?
Filling me with dread .
Why do I keep thinking of endings?
Never beginnings.
I always hear the final note,
not the opening tone."
The words flooded his head,
Smashing their way
through his thoughts
like the tidal waves
from where
the asteroid crashed.
"Everything dies,
but I never got to say goodbye,
or say hi.
I never even let
that person enter my life.
Always worrying about the final line
and now the universe has conspired
to end it before it was time."
The waves crashed over
as the rushing darkness
smothered and
his eyes did cover.
