They leap
between the shadows,
as I blend
into the darkness.
They creep
down the alleys,
as I slip silently past,
darting fast
as the
moonlight casts
a shadow
of my own.
In this ghost town
the shadows leer,
through the despair
of longing,
a new song to sing.
Witness to the darkness,
they speak in silent whispers
on the steady breeze
that flits between
the shadowy trees.
They peer through cracked walls,
beside scaffolding poles,
as I pour into the charcoal nightfall.
They look over the city from high,
they stare whilst I cry inside
as starlight lands
on the floor
beside my shuffling feet.
They drift through
the canyon shadows
street by street.
They lurk, and stagger,
a sway and a swagger.
They jerk to the rhythm
of the ever increasing
shadows,
whilst I twist and turn,
looking for a way to return,
to escape from this maze.
This colossal cavern
of inescapable alleyways
but wherever I turn,
the shadows
are always following,
always in step,
wherever I let
my feet fall
they are always
Just behind
bleeding into the walls.
