Beautiful neighbourhood.

In this beautiful neighbourhood.

Drugs flood the playgrounds,

syringes litter the parks.

Hooded youth, glazed eyes,

swigs Strongbow after dark,

as he strides, arms swaying by sides,

neanderthal knuckles dragging

on the ground, ploughing a line,

like the one that in future,

will see him doing time.

In this beautiful neighbourhood.

It's no good leaving the house after dark,

shadows come to life when you do,

walking just a few steps behind you.

Man in boys clothing, sways through,

calling you out.

The threats claw at your throat,

fill you with doubt,

make you feel like choking,

but running just makes

them think that you’re scared.

Cheap cider, with cordial

to mask the taste.

Blurs the mind, masks the pain.

Vomit sprays like acidic rain.

In this beautiful neighbourhood.

In this beautiful neighbourhood

against the backdrop of burnt-out cars,

smoke filles skies.

Lovesick eyes giggles,

as if the sky isn't crying.

She eyes the man to her right.

Laughs when he grunts,

Ignores the racist squeaks he speaks.

Squeals in delight

at the way he puts her down.

Little realising

he is scewing half the town.

In this beautiful neighbourhood.

Check three times before leaving the house.

Check you've locked the door,

better to be safe than sorry

so, you return and check again,

just to make sure.

Swerve to avoid the oncoming gang.

You may feel paranoid,

but the smashed windows

from stones thrown are very real.

Call the police

and you will be seen

as the person that squeals,

and for that you'll hang.

In this beautiful neighbourhood,

things are far from ideal.

Hoodie throws his can on the floor,

lights a roll up and strides on some more.

Squares up to the man in boys clothing,

hugs him with brotherly approval.

Into the night the three amble,

looking for trouble,

in this beautiful neighbourhood.
