A whirlpool
of rage and love
sucked me down
into a deep sea of sleep.
Where diamonds weep
and words are painted
in skyscraper towers beside
streets of aquamarine.
I swirl through
the waters beneath.
In empathy, I hear
the choking pleas
of the elegant gulls,
with lungs polluted full.
Telephone calls, drunkenly asking
to accept apologies.
I hear aching seas, wailing in agony.
I hear the terrified, torrent,
the cries of children
as their cupboards hide monsters
in eternal torment inside.
I hear lovers’ moans
echoing far and wide,
as the moon shies
her lust-filled eyes away.
I hear words spoken
in ancient tongues,
from worlds that existed
long before today,
Longingly craving our ears,
to understand the meanings
they wish us to hear.
I read golden words,
stamped on crystalline pages,
through prisms of reality.
So that the gold shimmers
into rainbows of magical beauty.
I hear atoms,
and the sounds that fill
all of their empty space,
and through it all
I still see that one face.
The one
without a name or place,
except in my dreams,
where we always meet.
Beside the upside-down coffee shop,
where the sunlight
is a mixture of purple and orange blends.
Down the street
where dreams never end.
