I feel you in our shared dreams.
We both see the same places,
the same abstract scenes,
the same visions.
Those same twisted faces with
the same vicious leers.
Two ships adrift over stormy
cascading waves.
Memories become
blotter paper smudging
the ink smeared page.
I see you over on the other side
of the sleep veil, a boat sailing,
with light slowly failing,
lost without directions.
No compass, no maps,
no magnified view,
just the frail internal feeling
of a scream
waiting to be born anew.
The sound of the universal snap,
when the threads
have been pulled too tight,
when demons invade your nap
and won’t leave your side.
I owe you an explanation…
The ship you are sailing
was one drawn in my dreams,
built by dream hands,
to help you find dry land.
I owe you an apology,
I knew that my words
could plant trees in deserts
and create forests from waterfalls,
but I never knew
they were also a sirens call
for monsters to follow
and break down the walls.
All I can do now
is offer some light.
I paint a moon big and bright.
I pull the clouds apart
to share the starlight.
A guidebook in the sky.
If any beast gets close,
I'll form a mountain of hope,
to keep you safely apart,
as you sail peacefully home.
To the place built from my heart,
where the sun shines daffodil smiles
and my fields of love
go on for miles and miles.
