I thought of you today,
from nowhere you came
and entered my mind.
You took over my dreams,
flew in like a phoenix
of love long gone.
Humming a simple song.
A one hit wonder
that took us soaring
to the moon.
I thought of you, when I was
looking through past moments
in my memory labyrinth.
I saw a book upon a plinth,
a strange book, with faded ink,
a torn cover and broken spine,
pages falling out,
some passages underlined.
A book of all the times
my heart has said yes
but my brain won't go,
when my heart said yes
and my head said no.
Like a picture postcard
sent to my mind,
I'm reminded of that
one lone summertime.
I'm whisked through ages,
different life stages.
To a page that had
barely enough words
before the final lines,
but those words were
a breeze in the summer heat.
They made the days feel complete,
and in those mazy memories I lay,
watching over the distant day.
I thought of you today,
a faded memory given clarity.
I remembered laughing endlessly
at the absurdity of the way we would
glance away when our eyes connected
in that special gaze. I remember our walls
crumbling, when the stares of others
didn't seem to matter at all.
I remember the kiss, when we finally sat,
admitting our hearts were full,
and I remember the songbirds sung
in harmonies, in tune with nature,
in tune with heartbeats barely begun.
Singing our summertime song.
A one hit wonder to the sun.
