Just a glug of still sunlight
splits day from night,
I take a sip of this cocktail delight,
under the deep blue overhanging sky,
like branches reaching out,
breaching the membrane ceiling
concealing the view.
A thin shine in the distance.
The oil painted sunbeams,
cracking like an egg yolk
over the fields
of deep asparagus green,
where a long time ago
I left my dreams
to grow into fruit filled trees.
Silence envelops me.
The sounds of traffic,
driven away. I'm sat,
like a swan
upon a lake of glass,
feet paddling, but there
is no friction,
nothing to grasp.
Under starlight.
twinkling diamond shelled
fairy lights fly past,
I'm reminded of days long passed
where we would watch
the shooting sights
invigorating the weary night.
Those fireflies of distant history
stirred into the velvet blue
of silent solitude,
becoming their own branching story.
The peace and quiet
of an open field
in a countryside scene
hidden from any maps, concealed
behind photographs,
my minds camera
once snapped.
I sit,
eyes wanting to nap,
but my mind
wants to embrace
the soundless life
of this memory place.
