When you lay alone
and the darkness
is making you feel undone,
like a jumper that's been caught
the threads are unwinding
like the weary clock hands
in moonlight, sighing that the
cycle is never ending.
The wind outside crying howls
as it blows gales
across slate roofing tiles.
Open up your heart,
put a thought of me inside,
I'll keep you company
on those cold frightful nights
when the dead won't lie.
When the sounds
of the house
make you jump.
Gnawed fingernails
and startled squeals.
Don't fear the noise
that goes bump.
I'll be there to warn
the ghosts away,
if they start to play
games in the night,
throwing pans,
casting spectral lights.
Just cling on tight
to that piece of me
in your heart.
I'll make sure
the ghosts take the next train
and depart long before sunlight.
Just you sleep tight
and I'll keep a watch
over the night,
like the watchman before,
I'll make sure
that no vampires
come knocking
at your door.
I'll keep the werewolves
at ease, they will lay.
peacefully resting
at your feet, until sunlight
becomes
the dawning of day.
I'll never let harm
come close to your shore.
I'll be watching from the cliffside,
all night and all day
Making sure bad tides stay
on the right side
and you can sleep
the fearful night away
peacefully
