I stand at arrivals,
waiting for love,
as the clock ticks
countless minutes away.
I wait watching patiently.
Every new face that departs
before the journey even starts.
I stand listening to the tannoy voice
saying no more trains tonight.
I walk away into the darkness
of another midnight.
I stand at arrivals,
awaiting love to alight the train.
I stand in the greying light
of the evening rain,
listening to the sound
of the leaving trains,
their wheels screeching
through the endlessly reaching
puddles of midnight
like beasts
ready to bite, feast and drain.
I stand at arrivals,
maybe I should have departed,
let myself regrow
the heart that you tore.
I should have taken
a journey away,
but I waited,
just to be sure.
I stand,
waiting for ever delayed arrival
of a wish that travelled away.
Watching metal tracks
glint in the moonlight
I stand at arrivals
waiting for days.
Watching the departing hope
as it catches different trains.
