You paint such pretty pictures
but your mind sees
the horror beneath.
The behemoth with giant teeth,
because he has trailed you too.
You have felt failed, it's true,
when life seems
to have given up on you.
You see such wonder and awe,
but your mind can't ignore
the terrors it's glanced.
The ones that gnaw and claw
at the thoughts knocking
three times at your door.
A sound that stamps fear
through your core,
then leaves you wishing,
hoping that this time
it will let you be,
for once.
To live your life
without the fear that cramps.
You speak such beauty,
but in your mind’s eye
you see darkness encroaching.
A veiled figure approaching.
You see the mist linger, heavy and thick.
a blanket of clouds,
like you are walking in the middle of a storm.
The muddy ground making your feet stick,
the winds are starting to howl.
You feel sick.
You see the world in vivid colour,
almost too bright for your eyes,
but sometimes the shades drop,
the colour fades,
and almost by surprise
you feel the fingers of ice
sting from your eyes.
As you weep, wishing that today
could just be nice.
I recognise the look in your face,
I've seen it fall over mine,
when I've glanced my reflection
when the beings give chase.
