We danced through hell,
twirling to our own song,
one we sang soundlessly
in the beat of our blood pumping,
to the whispers of our breath.
We swooped under waterfalls
reminders of that cool spray,
that previously fizzled against
our skin on those hot days.
We danced the night away,
Flightless birds,
taking to the air anyway.
We danced under
the moons sightseer eyes
As we stepped
into the midnight rhythm.
We waltzed between the stars,
Tangoed beside tangled bedsheet clouds.
Foxtrotted beside the foxglove
where we slyly shied our eyes
from where we had once made love.
Across grasses,
so besotted with the way
our feet swayed,
they swept themselves
along to the flow of our waves.
On the movements our hips
made in that shy light
of the moon hiding away.
Quickstepped across the oceans,
feet barely touching the waves,
I'd drain every footstep that you made
like it was the finest champagne.
We danced through deserts
as sand blast winds blew.
Through forests, covering
our naked skin from view.
We danced into tomorrow.
We slid into a rumba across
the pages of our story,
ink writhing as
we merged together.
We emerged dancing
into explosions and hellfire
and stopped and cried.
Watching as love slowly died.
