The very fact that we need
to have International Women’s Day
shows where the world
is still going so wrong.
Every single day should be
about equality,
us hearing what they say,
and taking it in. Really listening
and not belittling the strides they make,
not saying their fears are fake,
or that the tears cried make them weak.
For we are the weak.
Our insecurity, the toxic masculinity,
it stinks
and is clouding
the air we breathe.
We should be learning,
yearning to not be the men they fear,
or the ones that just stand and leer.
We should be the ones
that see achievements
and raise a cheer.
We shouldn't be a reason
for them to hide away,
or take a different path
because the one they walk is unsafe.
So, men, let's not be
the car key imprint
on shaky palms.
Let's not be the shadows on the park,
the wolf whistles
as they walk on past,
instead let us just open our hearts,
lay the pages of our stories together.
See the fear we can impart,
and tear it out, scattering it to the air.
Let's see how we can all do better.
Let's show how much we care.
Without women,
we wouldn't be.
It's as simple as that really,
They are nature in all of its beauty,
we the creepy insects
that plow right through it.
We should praise,
like we do for the sun in the sky,
the moon at night,
the stars twinkling bright.
For without them
we are but cattle
to feed the lands.
