My muse, I need you.
When I'm alone and confused,
or I’m worried
about the state
of the world
I see on the news,
seeing you smile,
even just the briefest smile
raises my heartbeat,
and I know I'll be
alright for a while.
My muse, you know, don't you?
I’ve seen it in your eyes,
you've seen through my mask.
You've seen that I'm petrified of life,
but you've seen deeper than that,
you know I'm mad about the heart
that I'm not sure beats back.
You know that inside
sits a love that burns bright,
but outside it just hides
only seen sometimes
as a twinkle behind my eyes.
My muse,
you've been watching my story.
You've seen me rise
from the bottom of a pit,
climbing high
to reach the summit,
but I still can't submit my heart
without knowing
that it won't get torn apart
along the scar lines
of past times
it's been ripped in half.
My muse, you know
you are in my head
every day from waking
until I fall asleep in bed,
and even then
you enter my
dreams most nights.
You know all of this
because you make my pen write.
So you know the thoughts that lie
behind every word
I scribble in the margins
of a torn page of poetry.
