There are some stains
you can't wash away,
so deeply embedded in the skin.
No amount of soap will scrub them clean.
The pain you search through
like looking for a pathway
in the pouring rain,
when all is flooded
and all that you see
is flowing down the drain.
All you can do is learn to accept
them as a part of you.
Embrace them.
Share them.
A part of your story,
they are just memories engrained
upon what you have become.
There are some scars
foundation won’t cover up.
You can brush them for years,
layer after layer, but they with still appear
through the mask you wear.
All we can do is take them in,
make them feel at home on your skin.
They are tattoos of your history,
where you were to where you are.
Did you ever believe the leap would be so far?
You are so close to space
you can almost touch the stars.
There are ink blots
in your brain notebook.
They cover the good thoughts,
only allowing the harsh
self put downs appear.
You can't erase the marks,
they sink through each page,
branding each one beneath.
All you can do is take a pen,
and write your story around them.
Doodle freely over
those blackened memories,
for they are a false reality,
a page in a different story.
