Could you
draw the moon?
I've forgotten
what it looks like
through
wide-awake eyes.
I've lost sight
of its hopeful glow.
I need to see
what it looks like
when love
flows through.
Can you describe to me
the way it hangs
lower every day?
How it makes the air around
appear fuzzy,
as if the clouds themselves
were carrying torches.
Can you describe what you see?
Until I can see in perfect clarity
the image painted
in the cavity when my memory
should be.
It seems I've lost my normality,
I can't see the things
that remind me of reality.
All I have is thick black shades
covering my view
and I am drained of all
the colour
that used to
wash through.
Now the stars
are blinking out too.
So, my only light
is the one in my heart,
which is dimming
from its dwindling spark.
I've lost my light.
The shine still sits
somewhere close,
I know,
but it no longer shows
in the skies
over these tired eyes.
I need to see it
through your view.
Feel your connection to the moon.
It will show me what love sees,
it will hold me whilst I'm all alone.
Can you paint with vivid colour
the world when that moon
sits high above her?
I've lost my four-leaf clover,
the one given
in a dream
by a future lover.
Now I feel darkness
washing over,
all I can do
is sleep
under these
tear-stained covers
and dream, but even in dreams
there is a hole
where the moon should be.
