We are all a part of
this earth, this world,
this planet
that slots so
perfectly in space,
to allow us to be
here in the first place.
We are all pieces of this
jigsaw puzzle world.
The images our own,
but once connected
the picture aligns,
to shine a message of home.
We share our ancestry,
with the leaves,
funnelling rainwater to nourish
the ground at our feet.
We are the
dewdrop greens
that slowly seep
into our shoes.
We are the surreal
and serene.
We are the views,
beautiful and mesmerising.
But in between every
slow flowing stream
there is a clash of forces,
as the ripples collide
with the riverbank sidings
crumbling them into the waters.
We are the liquid droplets
in the air. Particles
like comet dust trails
in the atmosphere.
When breathed deep
into lungs of fire,
we are the spark
that shocks
the heart back to life,
but we can also be
the midnight sky,
making everything dark.
We can leave our marks, our scars
on this world of ours,
Lovingly like a heart
etched upon a tree,
or hatefully like how we
deplete the land
that should be free.
We are the crumbling remnants
of an old star,
journeyed from
somewhere across
the grand cosmos, so very far.
We are
the aliens here,
taking these lands
that stood
long before our times,
and destroying them,
quicker than the sea
crushes a castle of sand.
We dig through bones of antiquity,
disturbing our already disturbed ancestry.
We pollute the seas with plastic monstrosities.
Deplete whole eco systems of their natural families.
We kill the bees,
even though
our survival depends on these.
We are the evil that walks these paths,
ripping up roots
and ignoring the aftermath.
We are the devil in disguise,
we take from the earth
never giving anything back,
except a pile of trash,
stacked skyscraper high,
all the useless tat
that money can buy.
