Endgame

All the noise. So much noise.

The clips of static, the snapping bands

of life cut short,

the taps constant drip.

the click of prayer beads falling on sand,

Water clanging through rusted pipes.

Surging winds whirling reddened skies.

The sounds of the night, screaming goodbye,

circling and enshrouding ever darkening clouds.

A staggering angry crowd look maddening to the air.

No prayer in their voice, just a silent curse

they never get to share.

As their lungs fill with fire

from the burning atmosphere.

Their voices like knives,

cutting deep within.

Silence drops like a pin.

Razor blade thoughts,

tear raw their vocal cords

until the only sound

is the air rushing in, cursing at them,

asking how they ever

let this happen in their name.

The creak of bones, cracking

as the wind crushes their atoms.

The stretch of muscles, tendons rippling

under the strain. The grind of teeth,

down to bloodstained gums, the pain,

and outside, the slurps of drains,

the spits of rain, the words of disdain.

The crack of thunder and its ear-splitting refrain.

The rumble of the earth, turning ever so fast.

The murmurs from the past,

murder of futures not yet cast.

A scratch of branches

against sandpaper air,

wearing down the surface,

until only the reverberation

of sprinkling dust fills the atmosphere.

The rumbling torment of a scarred world

as another humble fleck of dirt

hits the solid earth.

The sound, earsplittingly loud,

of a future digging deeper

into the spinning ground.

The rush of ages,

flashing, crashing

through mental airwaves.

Life replays memories over and over.

The crushing weight of forever

being torn away from you.

The voices that hide in this raging room

The feeling of every atom splitting in two,

The sound of a billion nuclear bombs

dropping in unison

and that everlasting night,

whistling merrily away.
