Oh shit.
Monday.
This has happened too soon,
I thought I'd have some time
to get used to it
but it's all come about so quick
as will the moon.
Just a few hours
and the sun will go down
and there will be
a new top dog in town.
I'd better start getting ready
I've had no time to prepare.
I don't have products to care
for such long hair.
I feel an ache,
deep in the pit
of my stomach.
It growls.
I look to the window.
The moon looms large
and I feel my flesh start to rip.
I start to howl
as my bones crack,
breaking into place.
My face elongates.
My teeth pierce through my tongue
not used to them being so long.
My nails, now claws,
ready to rip and tear.
I break through the front door
Into the cool night air
and I sense colours on the wind.
I see smells and hear so many things.
I can tell a human heart beat a mile away.
I can hear a dog bark,
no wait, that’s just me.
Scrabbling through the town at night
I devour a man just out for a bite.
I savour over stunningly dressed specialities
I sample every cuisine before my eyes,
every morsel I can find
but soon I realise
they all taste the same.
Every man, woman, child,
every colour, every race.
They are all the same.
As the sun starts to rise,
I rest my eyes.
I awake in a state.
Coated in red.
Dog hairs
covering my bed.
I look in the mirror,
and the mirror
growls back.
