Moonlight casts
her shadows,
far and wide.
Bountiful places
to play and hide,
open spaces
to lay
and watch
the sky tonight.
To watch the stars
in fascinating
dancing flight
like candles burning
through the
blanket of night.
The moon sees all.
Hears our cries.
Every dropped call,
every exalted high.
She sees the watchman
standing at his door
as the rains pour.
Only around him,
a constant downpour.
She has seen
oceans boil
then come to life,
seen it take
its first strides
on the soil.
She saw the
dinosaurs munching grass
carnivores
hunting the weak.
She saw the comet crash
and a world whose
future looked bleak.
She will be here long
after we are gone.
She knows the evils
that lurk
in the heart of man.
She has watched in terror
the horrors
of humans at work.
She sees every misdeed,
every hand of greed,
stealing food
from those that need to feed.
She sees the hate.
The weight
around her neck
is tight.
She cries
every night,
but then sees
some beauty in life
and her smile grows
big and wide.
