I waved farewell
to the ocean,
as she waved back.
Welled up emotions,
the walls began to crack.
I felt the first rush
of my built-up defences
crash
as into the deep dark waters
they did splash.
I felt
the first rumblings,
an earthquake in my soul.
letting
loose
a tsunami
of pain
I've held inside.
It covered
the countryside.
It flooded the cities,
villages and towns.
All were
left to drown.
Too much pain
contained within.
Was always
destined
to breach
this skin
and sat
upon this beach,
my tears rolling
toward my chin.
My defences
had been
worn paper thin.
I felt the surge,
as a storm
erupted
from around my head.
Thoughts emerged.
like stormy cloudbursts.
Rain soaked the ground,
I sat. I never fled.
Just watched.
Mesmerised.
As the waters
rose up to my eyes.
