I awakened
from a peaceful dream
into a nightmare world.
I was sleeping soundly,
sleep was around me,
seeping into every pore
but I woke to agonised screams
and a figure
standing,
looming at my door.
My eyes blinked,
as if the motion
would make
the vision disappear,
but with each blink
the apparition
took another step closer.
I shook. Trembled in fear
as ghostly fingers
brushed beside my ear
through my hair, and down my neck.
My nerves were shot, I was a wreck.
Sweat wanted to drip,
but it was too scared to appear,
Too chilled, it sat in icy cold fear.
It stung my face,
from the inside
ss my heart raced.
The figure stood at my side.
The future seemed distant.
A speck on the horizon.
and I was clinging on
to the edge of the world,
on the other side.
The figure loomed closer still.
I could feel their breath
cool against my cheek.
Rotten. Festering.
It oozed, like slimy vapour
oily and slick
over my tightly closed lips.
Made me feel sick.
I wanted to scream,
but my mouth
was glued tight.
So, I closed my eyes,
and in darkness
I was to spend my life.
