Downpour Alley

I walk the thunder path,

hear the rumble

of each footstep smack,

slapping against

the cracked wet stone.

I walk alone.

I dawdle down

the lightning road,

as blazing streetlights

blind my eyes.

I listen

to their humming tone.

I walk alone.

I amble along

downpour alleys,

twisted valleys

beside buildings set high.

I stare up

at the tear-filled sky,

pouring its heart

into my eyes.

I feel the water

chill my bones.

I walk alone.

I stride the

tempestuous side streets,

where hearts

don't go to meet,

where eyes

stare only at feet.

Where any heartbeat,

could be your last.

I look down

at the shadow cast

like it is set in solid stone.

I walk alone.

I parade down

the bruised blue stormy pathway

I feel every strain

in my legs as I sway,

every stone embedded

deep into the soles of my feet

along the way.

I feel every muscle tighten,

my pain heightens

but I know it will help

so I try not to moan

As I walk alone.
