I've heard him howl
through my own tears.
When I hear
the screaming in my ears,
I've felt him near.
Growling, sensing the fear,
ready to pounce.
Always just a step behind.
waiting for the moment
I lose my mind
and I scream to the sky.
Won't you clear this pollution from my eyes,
the grit covered corneas
just bring sighs.
I've watched
as he walks
just a few steps away.
I've seen his jaws,
full of menace,
canines all bloodstained
and rotting with decay
but he walks after me.
Hunter to my prey.
So, I shout and pray,
will anyone listen to what I say?
But the words just fade
and desert me again today.
And that big black dog
keeps pace
following me home.
Walking in my shadow,
in my personal space,
doesn't matter
how far away I roam.
He always seems
just a step behind me.
Chasing my skin covered bones
and I say Lord. Will you spare me.
But he doesn't listen to my pleas.
So, I walk on regardless.
through the ever-darkening trees.
