Movement of a shadow

Have you ever caught the movement

just out of view, where the eye tries

to meet the ear, when fear sits in the spine,

and the chill is ice to the brain.

A brief movement,

a moment of confusion.

Meltdown brain erosion...

To the left.

And then...

No wait to the right...

Behind?

Blindsided

Shades fall down...

It’s gone

Nothing, no-one,

just zombie air, lifting the

hairs on your neck, your brow drips

with sweat. Fear sits on your lap

and burrows into your gut, pawing

at the lining.

but the scent lingers

like fine rain-soaked grass,

after a long acrid summer,

it wafts a rotten scent,

on the empty breeze.

Heaving heart pounds

a frantic beat, But no sounds,

as your creaking ribcage,

struggles to hold back the strain.

A dam about to collapse

from too much rain,

and your breathe freezing fracturing,

stuttering, guts lurching but no sound.

Only stillness, like a lake of ice

stores up a feeling that bites,

and this stillness pours all around,

to drip over you, like a wound

mid flow, and it feels

cloying and sticky

as it flows into your pores.

Your stomach feels sickly, and nothing

makes any sense anymore.

You have felt fear before,

but nothing here feels sure,

Buckling legs try to run, but

vulnerability forces you to crawl

Fight or flight fucked off tonight.

For you know what you saw...

The shadows moved 6 foot high,

A beast... Must be?

A beast you can't see.

And you…

A feast laid out for him to dine.

And you feel the warm breath.

And the teeth,

and

nothing

but release.
