80's Computer games

Remember the past, when video games began
oh the joy when we typed load"", and out those sounds rang
we could enter a world of imagination, joy, terror
as long as we don't get the dreaded rtape loading error

For me ZX Spectrum was king
48k of pure power, we could do anything
those days games would last, more than an hour at best
most time spent praying to the gods of tape loading, if we're honest

The games we did play, was head over heels with batman, never wanted to go back to skool
A great escape, to spend three weeks in paradise, we could even Sim a city, how cool
Joined the jet set with willy, whilst getting dizzy over wizball
Lets go Mr Driver sang Nancy at Chase H.Q. as we boasted about it all

Through the trapdoor we went, to play with our heroes
when ants attack, when the fuse is lit, we need bomb jack, not zeroes
Robocop, died more times than i care to count on level one, just so much crime
but with Patience i cracked it about knight tyme

Sports fans, had a ball, no need for fresh air
match day, football manager, Emlyn Hughes, never need to leave our lair
we could conquer galaxies, take out trash hack the world,so much to see
just pray to the gods that your game is still running, when you get back from tea

Thanks for reading, this was a trip down memory lane.

Existential dread

Fear of death, terror stings the heart
the great beyond, what is our part?
the unknowing nature of time, its grip over us
forever longing, a feeling that can crush

True terror, like the world doesn't exist
something out of grasp, a lapse, don't get the gist
time is sinking, completely out of sync
yet we carry on regardless, always on the brink

All just illusion, when you cant trust your eyes
nothing feels real, when the brain tells you lies
everything is fiction when your ears do deceive
how can you hear anything and still believe

How can we be truly free, if we barely exist
on our darkest days, fear we wont be missed
the dread builds, inside when you feel invisible
even if you want to hide, is this fixable

Loneliness our companion through this hell
can eat the soul, cursed by this spell
often the one who smiles large and has a crowd around
is the one who feels like they live under a cloud

Are we really in control, can we alter our course
is destiny a path we take, one with lots of forks
if not then who pulls the strings, what is their aim
to create a frail brain, with no passions aflame?

Burn it down

Burn it all down, bring an end to this pain
the thoughts that live in the deep parts of the brain
too much to take, too hard to turn from old recollections
so let those memories burn, all those past reflections

Watch as the blaze takes hold, engulfs, tears through old tears
evaporating, they drift away as do the fears
still too hard to let go of you
so burn away those pictures I no longer want to view

The burning embers of memories, exposing as they go floating by
twinkling in the dark night, scars of stars exploding in the sky
let the past become ash in the cool air
burn away the reminders of the days when I believed you could care

So light a match to the past, watch as the flames leap away
as they clear the surrounding fog, get stronger every day
the memories fade, the pain of the past denied
the smoke eases, the fire burnt out, a new fire burns inside

Sleepless nights

Oh these sleepless nights
let me drift into dreams, will soon be light
no sleep in sight, as my thoughts collide
waltzing around like a dancer,  my eyes open wide

On these dreamless nights, stare at the moon
wonder are you looking too, from your room
are you awake with me, watching the stars
just wishing for a sign. that the time is ours

On these nights, restless and wide awake
wonder do you see me with eyes closed, does the heart ache?
could draw you from memory, my thoughts so lifelike
a scrapbook of sketches to sift through, almost dreamlike

Oh these wandering thoughts, so sleep deprived
if only I could drift away, into my dreams id dive
to see you close, feel you near
but the dreams will have to wait, whilst I think of you here

Closed eyes, shuttered minds

Through closed eyes you try to view
with a shuttered mind the sight isn't true
the image perceived, of me, isn't the one within
the one who needs to be loved despite the broken skin

Through your distorted lens you cant see the lines
cant interpret the truth underlined, its vision undefined
what you see isn't the real me
just a battered shell, trying to break free

Through these windows, dirty grimy you will never see
underneath the surface, the true reality
through all the fake smiles, the small talk and liars
a world of people like me, outsiders

Through a hate clouded mind you see what you fear
a world that will never adhere
to a single minded point of view
for anyone Else's truths, only love will do

Gravelike bed

From this bed, struggle to move, a fight to be brave
too close a shave, hospital bed for a grave
body aches, tubes keep me fed, in a state of dread
so I lay, sleep, wake, watch the ceiling overhead

Leave dignity at the door, all help is needed
feel I have took a beating, all the warnings unheeded
so stressed,  too much time in your own head
struggle to get dressed, when you are chained to the bed

Seems dreamlike, sequences all out of sync with me, confusion
feel delusional, days and weeks just an illusion
my drugged brain, in this psychedelic joyride
the real world and my dreams collide, I'm scared I confide

This bed, now less a grave, a memory, a warning light
swam almost too far to get back to shore that night
Stood at deaths door, all bled out, with my glass in hand
he took my drink poured it away, said take a stand

My bed, I lay, smile more, body aches less each day
nurse gives a belief, the pain will go away
the fears washed over, like the tide had come in
start again, find the strength within to face the world and win

Thanks for reading. Peace and Love.
