That look burned
a lip shaped hole
into my heart,
like a fiery kiss
sizzling the raw muscle.
So rarely used,
though too often abused,
and I knew that
my life was
forever changed.
That look, a wink,
saying I see you
and you see me
I see below the mask
you use,
and you see the truth
in the words
I choose.
I see that look
and the way it brings
with it a friend.
The little grin,
the smile that forms
from nothing.
Making the eyes infuse
with dancing delight, and I knew
from that moment.
to deny was no use,
I want to share that light.
And I'm falling. So fast,
I'm down in a pit.
Into hell I’ve been cast.
This seemingly endless
hole down which I hurtle,
knowing that these
thoughts are not fertile.
They can't be shown.
The seeds, not to be sown
are not to become a field
upon which that blossom can grow,
upon which we can watch the clouds billow.
But still I see that look,
so I let all these thoughts
drop from me.
Deeper into the pit,
and I am slowly
being raised out of it.
Those thoughts
will linger at the bottom,
and I will return to
revisit them often.
Wondering if my silence was golden,
or a chance of happiness, stolen.
