running

Drink so hard, throw it down, let the darkness cloud
what are you running from? what scares you so?
A hole where the heart once sat proud
cut away, all those years, the tears, so long ago
the love once held inside, now just a memory in the distance

The look in your eyes, says you want to be anywhere but here
you always smile before you dig the knife in
what are you running from? what is it you fear?
days lost to a drug fuelled rage, you can still find the love within
find a place in this world, turn a new page

You want to disappear from view, longing to be clean
but need another hit, feel so drained, dirty abused, unfit
What are you running from? where have you been?
you run to escape, blank out days, to find a place away from it
find your place in this world, feel the love hidden deep

Forever running, to escape our darkest demons call
they follow us throughout, don't run, turn and shout
we can be strong, we can be tall, the demons will fall
take a step towards a life that holds you to its heart, stand out
find your place, feel the love that holds us all true

Darkness

The lights went out, the town fell under a blanket of night
into darkness we ventured, let it engulf us in tranquillity
star filled sky above glowed bright like neon lights
so vivid and vast, a universe of possibility

Our hearts played the beat, the stars lit the night
spent so long blinded by the city, now at ease
darkness gave us a new view, a world so bright
held you tight, against the cool nights breeze

In this galaxy so big, we found a love to give
to let our feelings show, our fears undone
in this darkness we found what we need to live
two souls collide, like day and night, to create one

As the lights are powered up again, the world looks new
all so much more colourful, bright, unworn
so much to explore, just me and you
in this land reborn

summer sun

Feeling sentimental, those precious summer days
that fleeting romance, under the suns warm rays
when our hands touched, our eyes gazed deep
love blossomed as the days turned to weeks

Those special days, in the burning heat
embraced each moment, those fresh new feats
this love, so long in the past, a time now passed
forever ingrained in the mind, those memories all that last

A walk on the beach, sand hot, heat beneath our feet
waves lapping to ease the sting, cooling relief, a treat
a picnic by the sea, empty beach, just you and me
our days lost in a loving gaze, in the summer haze, free

The moments between, the times we shared
the silence, the words we never said, feelings never aired
our souls never fully bared, our hearts barely even paired
we never let down our walls or showed we cared

This is why we are forever past, our truth couldn't escape our grasps
we could never share our inner thoughts, instead we wore masks
hid away from the chance of pain
instead of embracing the sun, we welcomed the stormy summer rains

Circus is in town

Some things never change, criminals always reign
con artist freak show, as they scream too and fro, insane
tell us they care about the fates of others
then drop bombs to prove their love

A world built on lies, they cheat and steal our lives
corruption runs deep, like cockroaches they always survive
power and greed, not peoples needs, their true campaign
the circus is in town, the clowns are back again

Same old lies, lines untrue, told to instill a fear in you
doesn't matter which side you fall for, all they want will come true
all deceive, only ever want more
power, greed, the clowns have the floor

Built on a myth, a belief in better
that things can change, just like the weather
a man, suited, says to love thy neighbour
just not that one, he is our enemy, he is out of favour

All over the trigger fingers twitch, ready for war
it boosts profits, see how they soar
the clowns have the stage
their smiles hide a lustful rage

Oil, money, the weapons market, a power struggle to fill their pockets
piggy banks fill, not enough to help the ill, yet enough to buy rockets
as innocents die, killed, a loss in all sense
the clowns have the mic again

Health service cutting costs, stopping medication
too costly to serve to our nation
yet department of defence goes on the attack
at any cost, all seems out of whack

Tired

Tired, low, lonely and cold, this body feels so abused
pushed to its limits, done too much, its no use
not afraid of deaths cold grip
afraid of a life not lived, let slip

Feel the clouds descend, crowding my brain, when will this end?
the foggy grey blankets me in a wash of rain, Am I condemned?
it flows down like my addictions used to
today I just have to fight my way through

Loneliness, my closest friend, came around again
shared a drink in silence, always the same
need to get free, these four walls entrancing me
escape the feelings within, unworthy, unheard, not to be

Cant seem to think straight
cant evade, this nagging doubt and self hate
but I know it cant last, it will end when the time is right
when I walk out into the brisk cool night

marathon

The starter's pistol fires loud
sound startles my mind, instinct takes hold
my feet start to run, my stride is bold
these first baby steps make me feel proud

In my lane, I'm behind the crowd
this race isn't a sprint, a marathon to run
a way forward, a race that has barely begun
hold my pace, ignoring the dark storm clouds

Feel my muscles pull tight, been running all night
a stitch in my side, my chest on fire
pound on some more, cant retire
need to keep going need to fight

Now I'm running as fast as I can, keeps out the thoughts in my mind
am I running away? why? am I scared?
is this my race to win? do I need to stay in this lane?
so I persevere, the thoughts begin to clear, the fear left behind

In the past the darkness would have stopped this
now its time to run headfirst into it
overtake the pains, the worries, the tears
take first place in this race against fear

Forest of hate

Deep in the heart of the forest of hate, I wake
the trees feel like they are closing in, claustrophobia choking, feel off beat
a winding pathway through, scattered with twigs to scratch my feet
as the trees get nearer can feel them in my face, fill me with heartache

Ground wet with the sludge of a million rainfalls
sodden, it holds me in place, the vines and branches grip my arms
they pierce my skin, cut deep within, slashing, trying to cause harm
the ground so wet, from a billion tear falls

The screeching sounds cut through the air, a wail, shrill, I'm scared
they attack my head, from all sides, damage my senses
cant think straight, left defenceless
the undergrowth climbs around me, left gagged and impaired

All around the trees sway, hovering over me, blocking out the light
crowding me out, pushing me down, into the dirt, in the root filled ground
words wont come out, cant scream out, can barely make a sound
so many surround, cant get out, but cannot fight

This forest so full of menace, should I just embrace?
this jungle of people, all rooted in place
surrounding, their gazes penetrating
they hold me down our limbs entangling

The wooded pathway, as scary as any cemetery
its hold over me so strong, need to return
to beat this fear, this cold dried tear, need to be reborn
and escape my self imposed solitary
