A soft smile

 

Sitting sullen,

slow tears drip.

Silent whispers

form from quivering lips.

A friendly smile

costs nothing.

A quick hi,

can place

some hope

in eyes

that want to cry.

 

A soft smile,

saying you see them,

can make a difference

to a face that you

see waiting everyday.

Can make

a difference to the way

they feel.

Being kind

is not a hardship,

you don't have

to give anything

just your time.

Let your smile reach out 

and smash the ship of doubt.

 

Words don’t need to slip

from your lips.

Let your smile speak

through the still air.

Smiles are contagious.

Let them infect,

help them spread quick,

to beat the sick feeling

where the world

is closing around.

 

Let your smile

be the embrace

which states that

they are not alone.

That the rat race

isn’t about 

to chew them up

and spit them out.

That whatever life throws,

someone is there

with hands to hold.

So be bold

and let your smile

shine a light.

Setting fire

to the cold

ending the harshness 

of night.
