Stained pavements

Emergency exit,

pull handle to open.

I want to get off.

Another blade cuts the night,

as another life

lay fading in the streetlight.

Red reflections,

like Ruby fragments,

as flashing lights appear.

Too late.

A soul left to wander clear.

Across town

down another body falls.

No getting up again.

Blood washes away

in the heavy rain.

Life trickles down the roadside drain.

Flowers will mark the scene.

Soul left a stain

on the crack pavement,

where the boy was slain.

The glint of red

as the blade is discarded.

To be found by a child

in some overgrown garden.

Pull that handle tight,

something is wrong in the night.

The exit is open

I want to alight.
