Unglamorous (For Ruth Miller)

Gone too soon

and for today

tears will rain,

but the legacy will remain.

All that has been done,

creating songs that will be sung,

reverberating through the city.

Creating a buzz

that will not get forgotten.

A social connection, through sound,

giving voice to women

of all generations.

A sonic avalanche of talent

unearthed,

birthed a new scene,

from a dream to reality,

a collective scream

and that sound will be felt

in the way it creates safe space,

and enables stories to be heard.

It is more than a yell. It’s a roar

to be heard. Bring on the noise.

Raise the applause.

We raise a glass,

to say thank you

for all you have given,

breathing life into the rhythm.

You will live on.

in so many songs

and in each woman

that tunes a guitar

and starts to sing.

In every new pair

of hands hitting the drum.

In every connection,

created through the tunes.

Thanks for reading

The unglamorous project was formed by Ruth Miller

as a way to get more women of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels together

to form bands, to give voices

to people whose voices are not heard enough in the music and arts world.

Over the last year there have been lots of new bands formed,

all making waves on various stages across the Midlands,

its a truly beautiful thing.

Sadly Ruth passed away a few weeks ago.

But her legacy will remain and grow.

Today was her memorial get together,

and I thought I'd write a little piece to say thank you.

And to give praise to all of the hard work put in by Ruth and all of the bands.

You are all amazing, I have been lucky enough to see most of you,

and I am blown away by the talent,

and long may it continue.

Please check out the unglamorous sampler on Spotify,

and if you are in Leicester

or nearby cities keep an eye out for gigs

Every click, every book purchase,
