We travelled as far
as we could.
First, by ship, then on foot.
We walked the earth,
every inch that stood.
From the deepest chasms
to the highest mountains.
We kept going searching.
Seeking.
Something
we couldn't quite fathom.
Earth exhausted
we took our pursuit to the stars,
first into orbit
then to the moon and mars.
We took our time
devouring the surfaces,
scouring the lands.
Seeking,
Searching
for some long-forgotten question
that slipped like water through
the fingers of our hands.
We travelled
as far as we could.
A million stars. A billion.
A trillion different worlds
all like ours.
To the absolute limit
of space, where even infinity
has had to give up the pace,
and sat still
clicking copy and paste.
And still it was eluding us.
The question. The answers.
The meaning.
Then we sat and looked
into each other’s eyes, quizzically.
Therein grew another feeling.
A silent cry.
A solitary tear drop.
All those years
searching. Seeking.
Ever expanding,
reaching,
and the answer
was there all along.
It's the one lesson
we should be teaching.
Love.
The answer
was always love.
Not the stars above,
or the lands below,
nor the vast oceans that flow,
but the light that glows
in the eyes of someone
you can't bear to let go.
Thanks for reading.
