The sun blinked back tears of night-time,
took one solitary look at the day, rolled over
in her bed. Said to herself.
“Not today. No one notices
the work I do anyway.”
She closed drained eyes.
Fiery tear trickling from the side.
A weird light brewed over the countryside.
The stars looked on in shock,
and just a hint of delight.
This hadn't happened before,
but it will serve them right.
Gossip spread between the twinkling crowd.
Soon replaced by yawns
as they too were tired
and needed their beds to rest
their pointed joints.
“Whatever will we do”, the north star said
(Always the leader, in his own head)
If we turn in, then the universe will go dark.
“Even the moon isn't looking herself”, he said.
The luna crown placed down,
halo removed, her glow now a light frown.
How can she soothe when she aches
so much herself?
Too saddened to share a smile,
all she wants is to flee.
The world stopped suddenly.
People looked up.
Confusion became concern,
became fear.
In the darkness the guns fell silent.
They could finally hear!
In the weird light people didn't fight,
They searched for those in need of help,
respite from the coldness of night.
They spoke to strangers.
In the darkness they ignored
the walls of difference
that had been built up in ignorance,
and they embraced their existence.
The sun looked on,
sad eyes started to sparkle,
For so long she had
witnessed the human debacle,
Hatred spread like butter
slathered on toast,
Anger brewed like a bubbling kettle,
poured over beans left to roast.
But this one day,
none of this anger occurred,
They just shared a breakfast,
as the sun lit up the sky.
